December 7, 200421 yr would anyone be aposed to signing Rob Nen to a minor league contract and seeing how he does in spring training. I think it's somthing the Marlins should look into. If Nen could get himself back to a shade of his old form he could really help this question mark of a bullpen for us. Mota Spooney Fox??? dont know if he'll be with us Nen Perisho Bump ? ?
December 7, 200421 yr Nen wouldn't sign a minor league contract, someone would offer him a major league deal.
December 7, 200421 yr If we offered him a chance to close, he'd come, but there are other teams (read: bad) out there who will give him the chance to close if he's healthy. That said, if he's healthy, he would be the best bullpen arm on the market (Benitez included) but I don't think anyone believes he's healthy or can be.
December 7, 200421 yr I'd love to sign him but it aint happening. If someone signs him and he stays healthy it'd be the signing of the decade.
December 7, 200421 yr Nen seems to be done, he probably doesn't have enough left to be offered a major league contract.
December 7, 200421 yr I don't think Nen will ever be the same. Having Fox and Spooney will be enough injured arms.
December 7, 200421 yr Nen believes he can come back and says this is the best he's felt in over 2 years, but I don't think he'll be the Nen of old. If healthy, he's also considering signing with the Giants again and possibly being a setup man. He's very grateful to them for sticking with him and he feels bad they've had to eat his contract the last couple of years, so the Giants have first dibs on him... However, with all that said, the Giants trainer is very pessimistic about his chances at making any sort of comeback.
December 7, 200421 yr I think it would be worth the risk - depending on the price. Of course he is going to say this is the best he has felt in years - he wants to play. I dont think you can realistically expect him to be a closer at this point though. A set up guy, maybe. But he has the stuff to really bolster this bullpen. If the right price ($1m or less) came along, I would do it. Another guy that is a former Marlin that I am more interested in is Matt Mantei. I would love to see this guy healthy working back with the Marlins.
