David Dellucci and the Rangers are nearing completion on a two-year, $1.8 milliom contract, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The outfielder spent last season with Texas and hit .242 with 17 home runs and 61 RBI.

I still don't see why we NEED a left-handed "power" bat, and never thought Dellucci was the answer anyway. I can't believe all the fuss for someone who only hit .242 last year and happens to be a left-handed hitting outfielder. I am still unsure about where I stand with Encarnacion... but I do realize that last year was quite difficult for him with his injuries. I would say there is a good chance he will not be a .230s hitter for the rest of his career.

I don't want Delucci and he probably won't play even if we get him so what's the point...

To help the offense.

Adding a lefthanded bat forces opposing teams into tight spots when it comes to bullpen management.

Adding a lefthanded bat allows McKeon to platoon Jeff Conine or Juan Encarnacion, making it more likely to get top production out of them and from the position in the lineup.

 

 

There's a lot of ways for Beinfest to go about improving the offense. Trade current players. Sign/trade new players to start. Sign/trade to help off the bench. Work in prospects. Dellucci, Gibbons, Magglio, Delgado, Pierzynski, Willingham, Aguila, Colbrunn, Martinez and so on. There's a lot of ways to help what was a stagnant force all of last year. There's no need to set your sights on just one player.

Dellucci hit .242 last year! We would have been ripped. He is just another Todd Hollandsworth. Gibbons, BJ Ryan, and others would be nice.
