January 3, 200521 yr How do you religious folks (I guess this is largely a question for the Christians) feel about the big televangelists? I'm talking about the heavy hitters here. The Benny Hinn, Jerry Fallwell, Pat Robertson (700 Club), James Kennedy, Paul & Jan Croutch (Trinity) gang. Do you watch these? Ignore them? Enjoy them? While I think religious leaders in general have plenty of good things to say, most of these guys would just turn me off completely.
January 3, 200521 yr I think they're thiefs much in the same vein as people like Miss Cleo. They [superchannel 55] is building a 20ish story building about 15 minutes from my house and I'm sure that a good bit of money has come from little old ladies who are doing their part to get into heaven.
January 3, 200521 yr The ones on TV where i live are usually annoying and try to scam people. I saw one guy who was preaching about Jesus and trying to sell some jug of holy water at the same time. He made a quote like, "If you donate to the church not only will you receive the healing power of Jesus, but also a 6 ounce bottle of holy water, so call this number now to receive not just the healing power of Jesus but also a free gift of holy water a 9.95 value absolutely FREE."
January 3, 200521 yr most churches, not just the tv kind, are scams. 646708 sounds like a flasportsfan88 type comment

January 4, 200521 yr Author Ah, my faith in humanity has been restored. So who are these masses of people that show up to hear these people put on the show? I weep for the kids of parents who lap that stuff up.... & what about Billy Graham? He must be more acceptable because there are freaking billions of people who show up to see him. It's like a Stones tour.
January 5, 200521 yr I was watching the trinity channel one night at like 3am out of bordem, I dont think anything good was on QVC . Anyway, the guy one was giving a lesson on why the bible is right that the earth is only 5000+ years old and not millions like those scientists tell you. He was talking about how dinosaurs and dragons really did live in the middle ages, no way people could have made them up otherwise. Yeah that was scary.
January 15, 200521 yr Wow, and I thought I'd heard every possible crazy story about televangelists. One even tried saying Jesus was standing right next to him and told the camera man to zoom in on Jesus and then told Jesus to say "Hi" and deliver his fathers message to everybody. All they got was a bookcase. But that last one about the dinosaurs, we didn't "make them up" obviously, we found their fossils. I'm Catholic, I try to follow my Catholicism as best I can. But the Falwells, Robertsons and what nots just make me want to go Muslim or Jewish.
January 16, 200521 yr I like Jerry Falwell's blaming of 9/11 on gays and Pat Robertson agreeing :plain but of course because it was the night after 9/11 he said it, it was given no coverage and these shams weren't revealed for what they were.
January 16, 200521 yr Unfortunately though the southern rednecks (or at least a majority of them) believe people like Jerry Falwell, Ralph Reed, Pat Robertson and company. You guys, we can't criticise Pat Buchannon any more. He's mellowed out and he admitted on TV a few weeks ago he actually voted for KERRY! Buchannon hates Bush, so he voted for Kerry and looked the other way!
January 16, 200521 yr But the Falwells, Robertsons and what nots just make me want to go Muslim or Jewish. every religion has its extremists so that makes no sense at all.

January 16, 200521 yr I was speaking metaphorically when I said televangelists make me want to give up Christianity.
January 16, 200521 yr I was speaking metaphorically when I said televangelists make me want to give up Christianity. 656971 I guess you figure I'm some dumb redneck from North Carolina so you feel the need to italicize it like some yankee ass hole. Its not a very good use of metaphor if you ask me. Maybe hyperbole or sarcasm but I see no metaphor in that statement.

January 16, 200521 yr No I don't think you're some dumb redneck from North Carolina. In fact I think North Carolina is one of the gems of America because they were sensible enough to make John Edwards their U.S. Senator for 6 years. Can't argue or dis the state that's given me my political hero.
January 17, 200521 yr people still call northerners "yankees"? 657458 In the heart of the confederate south (Virginia, the Carolinas, Tennesee, Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama) its pretty rampant. Especially the more rural you get. I see quite a bit of it in Miami and the farther north you go, you get more and more.
January 24, 200521 yr But the Falwells, Robertsons and what nots just make me want to go Muslim or Jewish. Every organized religion has its share of hucksters and sham artists plying the fringes looking to scam a buck or gain political power. 664281 would it be safe to say that those people are moonbats?
