Miggie after 2006 season

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how arbitrators determine how much to award a player? I am wondering just because... well, if Miggie has two more seasons of .300, 30hr, 100rbi, 100 runs how much would we have to pay him? And there's not telling how well this kid can do in the next couple of years... .315-.330, 40-45 hr, 120-140 rbi, and 100+ runs are not out of the question. Will this kid bankrupt us in two years? Let's trade him before he gets too expensive......

You get a lot of talent, just gotta pay for it. :mischief

And Dunn and Kearns would come cheap for a year. Maybe try and spin Griffey off with Juan for some cheap pitching. :shifty

Miggie is a franchise player. We need to make him the cornerstone of the franchise and not consider trading him.

Sure Miggy is a franchise player, yet there is no player who can't be traded if the return value is there.

No way the Reds would make this trade though.

At the end of the day, a well balanced team beats a team with a single superstar every time. Just ask the Rangers and Giants.

I'm going to buy you a Reds hat for your birthday.

Hey they have a more potent outfield than one florida Marlins team. Was just saying.

And it probablly isn't all that unrealistic. I could see the Reds giving those three for oh, Miggy, Willis and Enc. Each team takes all the payrolls involved. And then the Marlins turn and spin Kearns for some extra pitching. Leaving the Marlins with an OF or Griffey, Pierre, Dunn, and the best yet, NO ENC CONTRACT! :lol

Plus I have Dunn fetish... but bigger Pujols one.

To answer your question, arbitrators are instructed to award a contract based on the player's performance and value to the club in relation to players of similar service time. However most arbitrators do not adhere to the service time requirement and often compare young players to veterans who have had their value determined by free agency.

if Miggy continues to be the stud he has shown us to be, i believe it would behoove the marlins to lock him down ala the Cardinals with Pujols... 9 or 10 million for 10 years. before he becomes eligible for free agency and the Yankee types get a shot to wow him, lets offer him this deal. it guarntees him all the money he wants and it doesn't cost us much each year , especially for a player such as Miggy. Of course its a gamble since baseball contracts are guaranteed but I believe he is worth it.

I totally agree.... If the Marlins can lock him to a long term deal like this, he'll end up being a bargain. I have always been against 10 year contracts, but if Miggy continues to improve, we may have to make an exception.

Seeing the way contracts have ballooned within the past few years, I'll bet by the end of a contract like this, average players are making $7/8mil a season.

IMO, He is and going to be a better player than Beltran. If he gets close to a FA year when he gets Buzz. Forget about it, he's gone unless The Marlins all of a sudden are going to go into a bidding war with The Yankee's and win.

Whoever mentioned, The Pujols deal is right. It's the only way Cabrera is a long term Marlin but then again didn't he fire Boras? Maybe money isn't his 1 target but who knows.

He fired Boras?!?! I like this kid the more I know about him. I hear he took a smaller signing bonus from the Marlins than what the Yankees and a few ohter teams were offering. So, you're right, it doesn't seem like he cares about money as much as other players.
