January 18, 200521 yr I understand the enthusiasm you Marlins fans have with Cabrera but to say he is a better player than Beltran because he hit 30 homeruns in a season quicker than Beltran and because he costs less is just ridiculous. Even in a season in which Cabrera hit 33 homeruns and drove in 112 runs, he created 30 less runs than Beltran did. Beltran: 127 Cabrera: 97 Plus, Cabrera struck out 50% more than Beltran did while walking 1/3 less than him. Add in the defensive game of Beltran and the fact that he has stolen 192 bases compared to Cabrera's 7 and you give yourself no doubt that Beltran is clearly the better player. I like Cabrera but I see him more as a Andruw Jones type player without the gold-gloved defense. Great power, good average and lots of strikeouts.
January 18, 200521 yr I didn;t say it wasn't impressive. In fact, Miggy is one of the few players on the Fish I actually really like. However, I think when comparing the two, you can't fairly compare present salaries. One is basically entering his second full year and the other is about to enter his 6th. When Miggy hits the FA market, he won't be this bargain that you're praising about him. Up until this offseason, Beltran was a bargain as well. I'm not arguing talent here... just the whole salary argument. No other team has had a chance to have Miguel, so of course his salary is low. Beltran was there... but now had the opportunity to bargain for more. How bout we do it this way: Miguel Cabrera 1st full season: AVG .294 HR 33 RBI 112 $320,000 Carlos Beltran's 1st full season: AVG .293 HR 22 RBI 108 $200,000 658738 How about this? if you have the choice to take Cabrera or Beltran given their current salary situation, who would you take?
January 18, 200521 yr dude... the point is that no other team has had a chance at Miggy. When that happens, I'm positive his salary will be in Beltran's range. The fact that he's not there yet is only because of age and service.

Yeah, Miggy projects to be like an Andruw Jones. Right. Andruw Jones has a horrible average. He projects more like a Many Ramirez, you homer. Plus, Miggy is only 21, so it's very likely he'll cut down on his strikeouts in the coming years... maybe get it down to under 100 by the time he hits his prime. You're looking at monster seasons from Cabrera in his prime... .315-.330 avg, 40+ hrs, 120-150 rbi. He can strikeout 180 times if he puts up those numbers for all I care.

January 18, 200521 yr miggy can be a manny with more power it's gonna be something hell earn well over 20 mill when he hits the market
January 18, 200521 yr hell earn well over 20 mill when he hits the market 658776 That's the evil part. I'm sure he'll get a 12 year, 2 billion deal from the Yankees or Red Sox. Beckett and Burnett will probably never be resigned as well. The marlins can never keep anyone!!! :banghead
