July 12, 200323 yr Well lets see, you get the AL top closer and extra first round pick at season end or "IF" the Marlins fall out of the race trade U.Urbina to a team in the race like the Yankees for a LHP Brandon Claussen and another prospect? :mischief2 Now what did the Marlins give-up? *Adrian was passed as this organization top 1B by Jason Stokes *LHP Ryan Snare is a good pitcher BUT most scouts say his a reliever at best. The Marlins wanted him to step up in AA but really never dominated. Do I hate losing Snare? YES.. Can you replace Snare? NO question! A BIG PLUS that the Marlins are counting on is the return of (former top lefty prospect)LHP Geoff Goetz in the next month. *OF Will Smith is an average prospect and was expendable Bottomline Gonzalez was pass Stokes and the Marlins have more to come the top hitter in Greensboro(single A) is 1B Tom Merkle .316 (OBP .397/.500 SLG) 6HR 26 RBI with a 1/2 BB/K ratio. Snare wasn't even the best lefty in AA that was Todd Moser with a 2.89ERA. Also with the return of G.Goetz IMO effect there decision. The negative is the Marlins are very deep with starters but not alot ready lefties. Will Smith a throw-in who is a good OF with no power. plus you have J.Hermida last year top pick How did this trade go down? Urbina IMO was the Marlins top choice but when they came to the Rangers the first time they wanted the Marlins to take Jay Powell and his contract with Urbina. So the Marlins turn there attention to Mets closer but again $$ from another player had to be involve in the deal. When that fell apart, they went back to the Rangers offering Gonzalez(which they didn't offer the first time) Also I believe "IF" the marlins were going to trade top prospects, trade them somewhere where they can't haunt you. Good move? YES.. Good PR move?YES...Will it help? YES.. don't get caught up with what we lost because believe me there replacement are a cut above those that were traded. ENJOY THE RUN :thumbup
July 12, 200323 yr I hate the trade .............. Adrian Gonzalez shouldn't have been included in the deal.I always had a feeling that this guy is going to special but I hope Stokes is the real deal.

But if Urbina can close for this team and maintain being a Type A free agent so we can get a pick that would make this deal a lot better.
July 12, 200323 yr IMO its a great move. Not only did we get a great reliever, we also made a statement. Thats why I think it was a good move. This is no Henry Rodriguez deal guys this proves to me that the marlins are in it to win it. Do I think the Marlins will win the division...no. Do I think the Marlins will win the wild card...unfortunatly no. Why do I think this is a good move sense I don't think they will go to the post season? Well for one I think it will be close, but The fish will just fall short...BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE MARLINS PLAYING FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN JUST TO FINISH OUT THE SCHEDULE COME SEPTEMBET/OCTOBER.

July 12, 200323 yr Author I understand not everybody is going to like the deal BUT when you have so many teams competing for the same player it drive the price a little higher than the team wanted to pay. The organization is loaded at 1B prospects and 1B are a little easier to find than other position players. Hey enjoy the ride, it might not be over. The team could get better prospects "IF" the team is out of it latter and trade Urbina.
