Can 2005 Fish Touch 2003's?

Featured Replies

If They 05 roster were set with these players today...05 might just have um...

Rotation

Penny----------Burnett

Redman--------Leiter

Beckett---------Beckett

Willis-----------Willis

Pavano --------Valdez

05 Burnett over 03 penny, Im prettty sure everyones with me on that...

05 Leiter, if he can dublicate last years 3.21 ERA of last year, its better than Redmans best ERA of 3.59 with the fish

05 Beckett Remeber Becketts stardom in 2003 was jsut int he playoffs, if Josh stays off the DL, its going to be hard to have a worse season than 03.

03 Willis Its hard to beet Willis's crazy 03 season, batters have seen him more now and his numbers are down, but with more expierince under his belt im interested in what Willis will do this year.

03 Pavano This isnt as "Duh" as it seems, remember Pavano was just mediocre two years ago, going 12-13 with a 4.30 ERA, and remeber Valdez, despite his ERA was 14-9 last year so obviously cept his teams in the game.

If Beckett and Burnett can stay healthy i have to take 05 rotation

Lineup

Pierre - ---------------------------Pierre

Castillo ---------------------------Castillo

Rodriguez-------------------------Cabrera

Cabrera---------------------------Delgado

Lowell-----------------------------Lowell

Lee--------------------------------Lo Duca

Encarnacion/Conine-------------Encarnacion

Gonzalez--------------------------Gonzalez

Its hard to do mathups in lineups because that can't take account the margains of the superiority of the batters.

I will def take 05, a Lefty in the lineup, an explosive one at that. No Pudge but we do have Lo Duca, and the margain between Lo Duca and Pudge is much smaller than Delgado and Lee. Cabrera has gotten much better. Lowell hasnt gotten worse, Pierrs steals are down but the BA way up. Castillo pretty much a draw with 03 and Gonzalez no ones nos whats going on with that guy.. just stick with the D and accational power.

Pen

Urbina------------Mota

Looper-----------Alfonseca

Fox---------------Spooney

Bump------------Reidling

Phelps-----------Perisho

Tejera-----------Jones

Helling-----------Bump

:plain 03

Bench

Hollandsworth---------Aguila

Castro------------------Difilice/Treanor

Redmond---------------Easley

Mordecai----------------Harris

Conine/Encarnacion---Conine/Encarnacion

03 Fish

Defense

C Rodriguez---------------Lo duca

1B Lee----------------------Delgado

2B Castillo-----------------Castillo

3B Lowell-------------------Lowell

SS Gonzalez---------------Gonzalez

LF Cabrera-----------------Cabrera

CF Pierre-------------------Pierre

RF Enc/Conine-------------Enc/Conine

With Lee and Pudge 03 no argument, the line between Lee and Delgado is smaller than Lo Duca and Pudge tho...

Everyone always forgets the 03 bullpen sucked to begin the year...Urbina came in July, Fox and Helling came in Aug. The bullpen can be improved pretty easily with the right pickups so it really doesn't worry me.

Correct... the 05 pen is beeter than the 03s to begin the year, if we pick up some guys later in the saeason like we did in 03 were should be better

one HUGE difference:

In 2003, the Marlins weren't supposed to be any good. They played as underdogs. They played loose, because they had nothing to lose. They were playing with "house money."

In 2005, they're already being called the best team in the league. Expectations are much higher, as they are now expected to win. Not sure if Jack knows how to manage this way.

Also, Lee vs. Delgado, Pudge vs. Lo Duca, Conine vs. Encarnacion... less defense, less team speed. Those were big factors in 2003.

But bottom line... we got Carlos Delgado!!!!!!!!!!!! So none of the above matters!!!!!!!!!!!

2005 Marlins.

But before we crown ourselves pennant champs, remember the Braves were being written off last year and still won it, and this year they return with Hudson. The Braves are still the team to beat.

I hope the national media (ESPN, FOX Sports, etc.) picks either the Braves or the Mets to win the NL East. I'd rather be underdogs than expected to win.

I like the team Beinfest has assembled. IMO the only two questions I have about your club is if Mota can close(which I personally think he can) and making sure aj and josh can stay healthy, if so you guys have a pretty special team.

Make no mistake about it: The Braves are not as good as they were last season, Hudson or not.

Braves are favorites.

Our 2005 team looks better than the 2003 team.

We project to win between 93-101 games. Enough for the Wild Card, but not necessarily enough for the division.

Reasonable analysis, yet you are comparing the 2nd half 2003 team with the opening day 2005 team. Mid season trades/pick-ups can make this team quite superior to 2003.

Now team chemistry is the unknown. The 2003 team had phenomenal chemistry. Whether this team can do the same is yet to be seen. But they did make several nice additions, and Delgado will only make it better.

The Braves are the favorites until somebody finally dethrones them.

Exactly. I'm afraid they find special money and sign Magglio because they're in need of two OFs.

I totally agree. If we can have an effective Mota and healthy AJ and Josh, we should be incredible.

Well the Marlins werent a world series team at the beginning of 2003, Im just comparing the 05 marlins to a team that won the WS....

At this point I'd have to agree with you. They do something magical every summer.
