July 13, 200323 yr Hey, DT you were wondering if it rained where I live, here is the radar pix from WINK-TV in Fort Myers. Every other TV doppler went down, so WINK was my only source and their doppler is older than I am.
July 13, 200323 yr Author It rained like hell around here... I said to myself, "thank god this aian't Miami or I would've bought a boat instead of a car" :plain :o
July 13, 200323 yr I have a peddle boat, and have a canal in the back yard. My neighbor has a lagoon in his front yard, I'm nice and dry. Gotta love drainage.
July 13, 200323 yr Miami's worst flood zones... Sweetwater Hialeah (in certain places) North Miami (in certain places) SW Miami-Dade Kendall Miami Lakes Parts of Miami Beach Damn, there are too many to name. "Mami, get the boat out, we need to get down the street to Abuelita's house and give her the rice she asked for her Arroz con Pollo." :lol
July 13, 200323 yr In Miami, the word "drainage" doesn't exist. In Fort Myers we have drains but no sewers, instead if you build your house right (like i did) it empties to a retaining pond, resevoir, canal, or lagoon.
July 13, 200323 yr Author "Mami, get the boat out, we need to get down the street to Abuelita's house and give her the rice she asked for her Arroz con Pollo." :lol :lol I have to say Sweetwater is the worst. I mean it kinda honors the city name, Flood... water.
July 13, 200323 yr :lol I have to say Sweetwater is the worst. I mean it kinda honors the city name, Flood... water. I used to live in Westchester (which is about the only place in Dade County that doesn't flood) and when it rained just a mile away in Sweetwater they were getting the sandbags and canoes out while we were hoping that the rain would stop so we could go out and run errands.

Isn't Sweetwater close or right on Sea Level?

July 13, 200323 yr Sweetwater has no drainage system, is below sea level in some areas, has no street gutter system, has housing developments, and has many quarrys and other things that take soil off the top of surface.
July 13, 200323 yr Author Sweetwater has no drainage system, is below sea level in some areas, has no street gutter system, has housing developments, and has many quarrys and other things that take soil off the top of surface. Only in Miami-Dade County...
July 13, 200323 yr Within the last year or so, Sweetwater has installed some huge flood pumps to help get rid of the floods, and I think theyve worked pretty well. I live in Kendall, dont have much of a problem here with flooding.

Yes they've worked extremely well, there hasn't been any significant flooding in Sweetwater since that one time that it was all over the news a few years back. I live here, I should know.
