Cape ? about ESPN radio

Featured Replies

Is QAM going to pursue ESPN for programming now that 790 is dropping ESPN? It appears there losing all there talent , it seem logical

It is a possibility, however there are some previous issues that led to ESPN leaving WQAM for 790 in the first place. If WQAM's management were smart they would get the ESPN Radio affiliation back.

1400 is just as good to ESPN however.

because it would increase the Marlins radio contract value(to add ESPN), if there goal is to stay with the WQAM

Issues possibly creating some problems:

1) Neil Rogers from 10 am to 2 pm. ESPN requires that Dan Patrick air live in the Eastern time zone from 1 pm to 4 pm. That would mean either moving Neil up an hour or cutting his last hour.

2) Mike and Mike air from 6 am to 10 am.....Fatberg airs from 7 am to 10 am. Unless Fatberg gets moved back to the afternoons, ESPN and Fatberg cannot coexist on 560. ESPN could add Fatberg...but then it wouldn't be a local show now would it?

Possible 560 WQAM Schedule with ESPN Radio

AllNight with Todd Wright 2:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.*

Mike & Mike in the Morning 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.*

The Neil Rogers Show 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The Dan Patrick Show 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.*

The Hank Goldberg Show 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Play-By-Play/Goldie/Howard David 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

The Eddie Kaplan Show 10:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.

*Approx. 11 hours of ESPN Radio programming

Edit: I wish WQAM would pick up ESPN...hopefully they can come to a deal.

Not really. The team doesn't care because the ratings of the game and ability for the station to pay is that matters.

In a couple of months, 790 is going to be worse than WQAM ever was.

They are just taking retread talent. Mandich looks to jump WQAM and go over to 790. Boog or LeBatard is likely to be shafted if that happens.

#1 major advantage why Marlins are on WQAM and not on WAXY (not including the right-to-match clause):

Beasley Broadcasting owns 560 WQAM's license and facilities

Primetime Media Group leases 790 WAXY's license and facilities from Jefferson-Pilot (aka 101.5 Lite FM and Majic 102.7)

Owning your house is always better than renting it.

Who the hell are you? There is no reason to disparage Cape and this thread.

Don't you have a rocket to polish???

Let me put it to you this way....the odds of WQAM going to ESPN Radio are about as good as Radio Disney am990 going to ESPN Radio.

WQAM is a sportsradio, ABC Radio (ESPN's sister company) owns 990.

1400 is the favorite to get ESPN now that they have lost Fox Sports Radio's exclusive rights in SoFla.

WQAM could do it, but it would not be a quick choice.

770 here in Fort Myers airs Cowherd to make up for cutting Mike and Mike in the Morning. WQAM won't pick Cowherd over Rogers.
