12 pitchers is just way too many for a 9-inning game. Of course you have to be prepared for extras. 5 NL pitchers-Benitez, Prior, Mike Williams, Smoltz, and Willis didnt get to pitch.

Next mistake was leaving Gange after he had been having problems with getting hitters out. He should have brought in Smoltz and let him pitch to the end.

Baker should have pulled Gange before Blalock came to bat seeing he was struggling getting people out. Put in Smoltz and then let him close the door.
