State of the Union?

Mediocre at best.

But it's kind of something every President has inherited for decades.

I voted for "W" Bush twice and I thought it was terrible.

No to Social Security changes as they can fix the problems in 40 years if they exist then.

Then "W" talks about reducing the deficit in half while only proposing minor reductions in this years budget....Rotten.

I thought it was one of his better speeches, but it wasn't all that great.

I hope Bush is ready for the big-time fight over Social Security in Congress, it's going to get pretty nasty from what I hear.

I'm glad that Bush finally came to his senses and shrunk our national budget, so we can at least try and slow down the rising deficit.

Back in 97 or 98, Clinton made a speech in which he spoke about taking steps to avoid the social security crisis that would happen within the next few decades. It was a different time then, but its good to see bush is willing to do somehting about it, perhaps this wotn pass as he intends it to, but it some reform will pass, everyone on both sides know that the status quo is too dangerous to maintain

That's what i like about Bush, he's crossing lines that not a lot of people would cross, in fear of losing the support of that middle percentage. Not that that percentage matters anymore, but he has been like this since long before the election in 2004.

Some say he's extreme and reckless..

I see it as him knowing what he wants and having the balls to actively pursue his vision.

Im not sure everyone understands the question. He is asking about the actual state of the union, not the speech the President gave. The State of our Union is strong. Democracy working at its best. Economy is making a rebound. We have been safe of terrorist for almost 4 years now. Unemployment is on the decline. There is a political rift, but like F_M said in another thread, political opposition has always been around and will always be around.

I know what the thread's about, I was adding to Legacy's post. No need to be a nazi about thread content.

LMAO sorry dood. Was just trying to clear something up. I was trying to be helpful. I didnt realize it could be viewed as condescending.

Sadly, I didn't watch it.

Blah blah blah

Typical dribble

Politics aside, as a voting citizen I feel it is my duty to listen to this address once a year. That is NOT much to ask.

They're always interesting to watch and it's kinda like a pep rally for the country in some ways.

Sadly, I didn't watch it.

You didn't miss much.

Actually he did. This is the most important speech of the year in the USA (barring unforeseen events). Its good to get a grasp of what the president is trying to do so that when Congress acts differently people dont go around blaming the president or vice versa.

What you just stated is a huge part of Rove's victory of perception. He's a f***ing politician man.

Sadly, I didn't watch it.

Fritz///////////// you really should get a copy and watch it.Unless you are afraid that you might change your mind about what this country is all about.

Sadly, I didn't watch it.

Fritz actually doesnt follow a direct party line. Ive seen his opinions on different issues fluctuate.

Sadly, I didn't watch it.

Well its a poll on the state of the union, not on the speech.

In that case, I'd say somewhere between mediocre and "confident and strong". I wouldn't want to live anywhere else except Grand Cayman.
