February 28, 200521 yr -ESPNEWS Supposedly a 3 year 11-12M per year deal. IMO, Braves screwed over Hudson, he deserves a lot more. Price of a pitcher just dropped.
February 28, 200521 yr That's $32.5 million between Smoltz, Hampton and Hudson. Another $28 million to the Joneses. John Thomson's 2006 option is $4.75M. You have to figure they keep one of Furcal and Giles (Betemit's servicable, and maybe Andy Marte can play 2B). That's close to $5M.Kolb will receive a nice salary bump. Putting payroll at $75M before C, 1B, LF/RF, SP, bench, and bullpen Next offseason will really test Schuerholz.

Oh well, whomever they sign to a minor league contract next off-season will be an MVP candidate (damn Braves).
March 1, 200521 yr they announced the deal. sounds pretty good for the braves. Around 11.5 per year. About 10 million of the money is in a signing bonus, which makes exactly when they pay it very flexible.
March 1, 200521 yr Anybody care to look at the Marlins' stats vs. Hudson? 698826[/snapback] I doubt many faced him aside from Delgado who has beat him up.
March 1, 200521 yr hudson has never faced the marlins. however, Delgado has absolutely crushed Hudson. .333 BA .471 OBP .926 SLG 1.397 OPS phew! in 27 at bats, so the sample size isn't really huge, but is big enough
March 1, 200521 yr Yeah, it's like they forgot that Hampton is going to start costing mega-bucks next year. Oh well, whomever they sign to a minor league contract next off-season will be an MVP candidate (damn Braves). As far as I know, the Braves, for payroll purposes, have been averaging out Hampton's contact. So he'll cost the Braves 8 mill this year, and every year left in his contact. So it's not a huge jump. In terms of non signing bonus money for Hudson, here is how it goes: 2005 - 6.5 mill (from deal w/ Oakland) 2006 - 6 mill 2007 - 4 mill 2008 - 13 mill 2009 - 13 mill They'll probably pay 3 million of the signing bonus this year, and split 7 million over 2006 and 2007. By 2008, Smoltz's contact will be over, and I think Andruw Jones's will also. That gives them money to play around with. I think Hudson's signing will mean that they won't resign Furcal after this year though- this is his walk year. For as much I hate the Braves, John Schuerholz is a pretty smart GM overall.
