Box Scores Misleading

Featured Replies

Box Scores, particularly ST, can be misleading. Interesting to read who played, what position, and how many AB's were permitted.

Might indicate Castillo got a Walk. Doesn't show he fouled off ten pitches fighting a flame-thrower.

Marlin gets 3 AB's. Hits all three to Warning Track against a strong wind. Box Score shows him 0 for 3.

It's the quality of the ST AB that counts. And that's not in the Box Score.

Best part of Box Scores (which PBPost posts each morning) is the footnotes (errors, SB, HR, Pitching Stats etc.)

(I post this only because I read some herein who seemed desperate to find Box Score. I read the Box Scores every morning but they are no replacement for listening, watching or being there! You can be easily misled.)

That's how box scores are. When Willy Mays made that incredible catch in center, it was just marked down as an out to Mays. If you want to see the great plays, watch Sports Center :thumbup

One of the world's greatest injustices is how small the score sheet is. They leave no room for notes like the proper trajectory and speed of a batted ball, foul strikes, defensive shifts, who's warming up and so on. That's why ever scoring should come prepared with a pen, pencil, green highlighter for good plays, pink highlighter for bad plays, and a splash guard to protect against rain, beer and other harmful liquids.

What Marlin hit the ball to the warning track three times?

I'm guessing Mr. Marlin. Maybe.

This is how box scores have been since the beginning of time, tell us something we don't know....
