Today while watching the game I noticed a change at DS, one many people probably haven't noticed. The right center field marker is now listed and 361 ft, last year and years before it was marked 385ft. Not only is RC changed but so is LC, LC is now marked 360. I'm I the only one who noticed the change? FSN when they show the dimensions of DS during the game list the ballpark as 330-385-404-385-345.

ESPN also hasn't seen the change:

New LC field marker behind AGON:

I checked many other ballpark sites and they have it listed at 385 ft.

This was done under everyone's nose to play a trick on the hitters.

My theory is that the FO had them changed to more hitter friendly dimensions to play a trick a the hitters' minds. When a player flied out with the old markers they blamed in on the park, and they made the excuse that the batted ball woulda gona out in any other park. When this happened they came up next time swinging harder to get it out of the park. Thus increasing probability of a strike.

The new markers are more hitter friendly and are about what's average around the league. When a player flies out now and they see the new markers they can't blame a fly ball out on the park. This causes them not to over swing next time out and increase the probability of a strike out.

Keep in mind the distances in the park are wrong anyways.

Genius move by the FO if this is the case.

Actually those are the correct dimensions. A group of people did a survey on the stadium a few weeks ago. I forget where the topic is, but their is one in this subforum about it.

I think you are talking about my post.

The assumptions and techniques that went into doing the calculations are discussed below in some detail. I need to mention that the distances from home plate to each of my 6 locations and the vertical distance from the field level to these locations are based on measurements taken by Matt and myself in late April. We measured the distance to the left-field wall down the line to be 327.5 feet whereas the number on the wall is 330 feet. The distance to the right-field wall down the line is 347.25 feet but is labeled as 345 feet. And, the distance to the right-field power alley wall is 369.3 feet but is labeled as 385 feet. The vertical distances from field level to the top of the wall was measured to be 8 feet 2 inches. The vertical distance from the field to seats was estimated based on some measurements taken in the stands.

Even then 361 is incorrect by 8 feet.

The stadium is still huge compared to others in the league. You can see it in the numbers... it's much more difficult to hit a homerun at PPS than like 90 percent of the other stadiums.

Forgot to mention this study was done back in 2001.

This change ocurred after 2004 - before 2005.

It still isn't going over the Monster.

I don't understand why it's so hard to just get one of those large industrial 1000 ft. tape measures and get the correct measurements once and for all.

?? No real idea on some

Turner Field is a neutral park, it's symetrical and has the basic 330-404?-330.

I'd consider Yankee Stadium a semi pitcher's park maybe neutral. What the lines don't have in distance left center and center have.

Using STATS/Bill James' three-year park factors (runs / home runs, 100 is average):

Coors - 136 / 135

Ballpark in Arlington - 124 / 124

BankOne - 118 / 114

Citizens Bank - 109 / 123 (2004 only)

SkyDome - 108 / 110

Fenway - 106 / 90

US Cellular - 104 / 131

Minute Maid - 103 / 103

PNC - 103 / 91

Wrigley - 102 / 120

Miller - 100 / 103

Metrodome - 100 / 88

Camden - 99 / 111

Turner - 97 / 101

Shea - 96 / 89

Pro Player - 96 / 84

Pac Bell - 96 / 74

Network Assoc - 94 / 106

Tropicana - 94 / 87

Yankee - 93 / 103

Angels 93 / 93

Busch - 93 / 85

Jacobs - 93 / 81

Great American - 92 / 114 (2003-04 only)

Kauffman - 92 / 74 in 2004 (130 / 120 in 2002-03)

Comerica - ~90 / ~83

Safeco - 88 / 97

Dodger - 84 / 105

Petco - 82 / 66 (2004 only)

Kinda off topic but where in Atlanta is the stadium located? Downtown? Mid town?

Downtown. You go past it on I 75 heading towards town from the south.
