July 25, 200322 yr http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/featu...aceoff0307.html Talks about the opposing strategies of the Marlins and A's when it comes to drafting talent. Interesting stuff.
July 25, 200322 yr BA always has great articles. Dontrelle is on the newest issue with an article about him and Cabrera making the jump from AA.
July 25, 200322 yr Good link...Interesting. I think both franchise's methodology, although divergent, are equally effective in most regards. Too bad the Fish don't sign long-term deals... They'd probably get alot of cred like the A's for their player developement.

Agreed...although I believe the Marlins scouting in the Latin areas helps them a bunch...their drafts havnt been too pretty.
July 25, 200322 yr Author Liking the Avatar Fish seems everybody is after him now Thats Jason Kendall...hes just the overpaid slob the Pirates are dumping on the team that takes Giles...I'm starting to agree...the package to get these 2 is going to be low because of Kendall's insane contract. And we wonder why the Pirates ahve been awful for so long? Just look at Kendall's contract. If we do make a deal for these guys we would flip Kendall to any team in need of a catcher, but end up paying a large part of his salary...and thats why it wont happen.
July 25, 200322 yr definitely a good read. Dan Jennings does a good job arguing the Moneyball, SABER, etc. theories....and Depodesta does a good job clarifying those certain theories. I'm biased because I tend to hate Billy Beane and his Moneyball theories...but Dan Jennings really did a good job debating it. His examples and analogies were good. The thing about the carpenter w/out the toolbox is perfect. DePodesta did clarify that they dont base everything solely on stats, and that looking at the tools is important too. I think both sides did a good job presenting their side.
July 25, 200322 yr this is a really interesting read, like fillet said, i hope we start signing long term deals, if not then i dont think we will ever be able to win it all, gotta lock those good players up, i would love to see D will and cabs locked up for the next 4-5 years at a moderate price, gotta take chances, i say long term deals to......lowell(even though now is prob to pricy), cabs, D train, beckett, Red (3 yrs), castro(3 yrs, cheap) , loop, and thats it... for know anyways, based on my own desires, nothing else, prob doesnt make sense anyways....i gotta go home to watch the fish, go FISH!!

July 26, 200322 yr The Herald actually had a large report comparing the styles of management of both the Marlins and A's several weeks back on a Sunday. They were showing how the Marlins could have been like them, if we had done things differently.
