that still doesnt take anything away from what he has done

Some guy offered to trade me Kenny Rogers for the D-Train in my fantasy league, needless to say I rejected that one.

Are you kidding?

That's a joke!

D-Train>Rogers

It's not even close!

No wait till the All-Star break he will fall off the face of the Planet like last year.

Oh and where is his companion Ryan Drese he has really sucked it up this year.

774282

Last year he was 18-9

He didn't fall of the face of the planet.

When the Rangers made the run for the Play-offs he sure did.

Especially against the Angels and A's

774290

He had more wins than all the pitchers on the Marlins.

He was only 2 wins away from 20!!!!

You can't say somebody fell of the planet when he had 18 wins.

He got a majority of his 18 wins before the All-Star break. Hey he did have a good year last year all I am saying is that he fell off after all-star break was not same caliber.

I am actually trying to find a web site that shows how many wins he had after and how many before.

But what really matters is how he played last 3 weeks of season when the rangers were in that great race with the Angels and A's Just like Pujols during the 2004 world series where were they. Nowhere to be found.

There is no way he had more than 11 wins by the ASG. So that means that he must have had atleast 8 wins after the ASG. ATLEAST. And he must have done good against his divison rivals if he got so many wins...

That's not so bad.

Considering he went 11-2 the first half, I'd say 7-7 is a mild fall from the face of the planet.

You also gotta consider how many games that Rangers offense won for him.

True. I guess he is like Dontrelle. But hopefully Dontrelle can do good after the ASG this season.

Thanks moneyball for the facts!

And yeah 7-7 is not that bad but those 7 he lost were againts rivals that the rangers needed to win to capture a playoff spot.

And look at his ERA. :thumbdown

oh well that was last season like you said maybe dontrell will continue this great season all season my pre season pick was Rangers Marlins in the world series Marlins winning in 6

we will see and hey i am from Texas but i am a die hard marlins fan. since 2000 so we will see where this season takes us for both ball clubs.

rogers is awesome. not just as a player, but as a person. the guy is just class and very kind. great community participator. im glad he's doing well.

this was the highlight of my childhood

Tribe scuffed up in loss

CLEVELAND -- Apparently, not only do you got to know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em, you also got to know when to scuff 'em.

Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers came within six outs of becoming the first man in history to pitch two perfect games last night.

Instead, Rogers had to settle for an imperfect 3-2 victory over the Indians, who accused Rogers of cheating in his pursuit of history.

Those charges were denied by Rogers, and angry members of the Rangers fired back that Indians manager Joel Skinner had crossed the line and violated baseball etiquette by accusing a pitcher of cheating in the middle of a perfect game.

Finally! An Indians game with some juice!

Rogers, who pitched a perfect game for the Rangers against the Angels in 1994, retired the first 21 Indians he faced last night before losing the perfect game when he walked Jim Thome on a 3-2 curveball leading off the eighth inning.

Rogers then lost the no-hitter when Milton Bradley followed with a double to left field. Later in the inning Ricky Gutierrez ripped a two-run, game-tying double.

Rafael Palmeiro led off the Texas ninth inning with a home run over the wall in right off Mark Wohlers, snapping Wohlers' consecutive scoreless inning streak at 17.

Palmeiro's homer turned out to be the game winner, but it wasn't until after the game that the fur started to fly.

Indians players accused Rogers of scuffing baseballs throughout the game.

''We had about six balls come into our dugout, and all of them were scuffed in the same spot,'' said Bradley. ''That's no coincidence. That would be like lightning striking the same spot six times.''

Indians players said Rogers was using the nail on his left thumb to scuff the baseball.

''It looked like he was rubbing the ball with his hand, using his finger nail. Maybe even when he was going into the stretch, with the ball in his glove,'' said Omar Vizquel.

''I went in and watched it on tape, and on Karim (Garcia's at-at in the sixth inning), he (Rogers) turned around and walked behind the mound and scuffed the ball with his thumb,'' said Bradley. ''He must have a good manicure.''

Bradley said the baseballs the Indians saw not only looked suspicious when examined in the dugout, but they looked even more suspicious when Rogers threw them towards home plate.

''He threw some pitches on 3-1 and 3-2 counts that the ball moved ridiculously,'' said Bradley. ''He got Ellis (Burks) to swing at a ball that just dropped off the table. Balls were taking drastic changes of direction all night.''

Thome said the Indians had a collection of several balls that were thrown out of the game by home plate umpire Andy Fletcher.

''Some of the balls were scuffed, and some were scraped and had a deep cut in them,'' said Thome. ''All of them in the same spot.''

After Garcia grounded out for the second out in the sixth inning -- the 17th consecutive batter retired by Rogers -- Skinner went onto the field to complain about the scuffed balls.

''We weren't even coming close to him. It was the sixth inning -- it couldn't hurt,'' said Skinner. ''I told the umpire we had some scuffed balls, and he said all they could do was check (Rogers') glove.''

Fletcher went to the mound and looked at Rogers' glove. The umpires apparently found nothing, because after a brief inspection, the game resumed.

''Check anything. Go ahead,'' said Rogers, when asked what he said to the umpires. ''They (the Indians) have kicked my tail many times in the past and I didn't say anything about it. If they want to check me now, OK.''

Rogers denied scuffing any balls.

''A lot of things can scuff balls,'' he said. ''The ground can cause a scuff. I saw a few scuffed balls, and I used them. I'd be stupid not to. But I didn't scuff them.''

Rangers officials were furious with Skinner for interrupting a bid for a perfect game in order to ask for the umpires to shake down the pitcher.

''I was very surprised,'' said former Tribe pitcher and current Rangers pitching coach Orel Hershiser. ''That's not something the opposing dugout takes very well. (Texas manager) Jerry Narron said, ?I know I would never do (what Skinner did).'''

Hershiser said the Indians were barking up the wrong tree.

''Kenny Rogers doesn't do anything to the baseball,'' he said. ''When a guy like that has a game that special going on, even if you think something's happening, you leave it alone and wait for another day. Or you wait until you get your first hit.''

Jake Westbrook started for the Indians, and pitched six solid innings, giving up two runs on five hits. An RBI single by Alex Rodriguez in the first inning and an RBI double by Palmeiro in the sixth gave Texas a 2-0 lead.

Rogers gave the Indians nothing through seven innings, but after nine the Indians finally gave something to Rogers.

Grief.

Noted

In retiring 21 men in a row to start the game, Rogers threw 87 pitches, 52 of them strikes. He had five three-ball counts. . . For the eight innings he pitched overall, Rogers threw 108 pitches, 65 of them strikes. . . The Indians did keep one streak alive last night: they have never had a perfect game pitched against them. They have had 11 no-hitters pitched against them, the last being by the Yankees' Jim Abbott in 1993, but none of the 11 no-hitters were perfect games. . . Following last night's game, Sean DePaula was optioned to Buffalo to make room on the roster for Bob Wickman, who will be activated today. . . In a start for Akron at Bowie last night, Dave Burba pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings on two hits, with one strikeout and one walk.

Wow, damn, almost 2 perfect games?

It's got to hurt when you get that close and come up empty handed...
