Posted May 31, 200519 yr Who the hell do we have to pinch run if need be? If all the regular starters are in, we have a bench of Treanor, Dillon, Conine, and Harris. Pretty slow. Isn't Mota supposed to be a relatively quick guy?
May 31, 200519 yr Wow I forgot Easley completely, but I'd say usually he's gone by then, no? Mota was a SS back in the day, he's actually a pretty good hitter and I figured he had some speed to go along with the bat.
May 31, 200519 yr My random thought is what does Josh Willingham have to do to get the call?? He is sitting in triple a and nobody can get him out, and yet Lowell keeps getting put in the lineup and can't hit for the Marlins.
May 31, 200519 yr He can't pinch run, that's why 790050[/snapback] But he can hit, unlike some members of the squad (including the highly paid 3rd baseman).
May 31, 200519 yr Oh, and as for the original idea in this thread, D-Train can run right? He's available on the bench 4 of 5 days.

May 31, 200519 yr You really can't use Easley to pinch-run because (unless it's part of double switch, very late or in extra innings where you have a slow guy at 2nd base with no outs) you then lose him both offensively and defensively at a later stage of the game. In September you'll probably see an Eric Reed up for just that reason, to give Jack a pair of legs to burn off the bench.

Are you asking me about my comment regarding Reed or my comment about using Easley?
May 31, 200519 yr weve used nate bump to pinch run many times last time i can remember was last year when castillo got hit in the leg and bump came in to run because there were no reserves avalible.

Was that who was sent down when Dillion came up? I didn't realize Aguila was gone. I thought he was still Cabrera's defensive replacement. :plain
May 31, 200519 yr This happens when you carry a pinch-hitter and an extra pitcher. Heck, it happened last year with Mordecai and Harris on the roster, and Nunez flopping and whining. It could be worse. The Twins started the year with just catchers and middle infielders on their bench. At one point, a third of the Orioles roster were catchers, corner outfielders or firstbasemen and they were carrying an extra pitcher too.
