Think about it this way, if the team goes through June and most of July playing like they are now, a week of winning followed by two weeks of misery and hell should we do something drastic and make a huge move. Reasoning for this is:

#1. Doesn't look like he'll be back next year, and if nothing really gets done with the stadium he DEFINATLY won't be back in a Marlin uniform if he manages to remain healthy this year. Plus we have several guys down in AA who could come up and do a decent job of covering up the 3 spot.

#2. If are team struggles for the next month or two and we really do end up with a tight 4 or 5 team race then filling a hole will be crucial. Weather it be another big bat, something to solidfy the bullpen or a pair of decent starters, or maybe a deal to give a little of each.

I've got faith in these guys and eventually that lineup is going to click and we may pull out a pair of 20 win months over the remainder of the season, but it's always good to have a plan B and it might be better to get something for the guy then just letting him walk.

If we know for sure that he won't be back next season I say deal him away for whatever we can get... which prolly is pretty good. If we know he'll be coming back (i.e. Mike Lowell situation) then I say keep him around and see if we can get Jeffrey to find some of his special money or whatever he calls it

Depends if we're playoff contenders in another month or two. This might have been a great move in the off-season. I don't think you'll find too many teams willing to give key pieces of their team (if they're interested in renting AJ, they'll have playoff aspirations) to help us in our playoff run. With the contracts we have, there's few places to work in any prospects we might get in return. Hermida has RF reserved. Willingham, Aguila, Andino and the Carolina Quintet are also fighting for jobs.

I hope he doesn't delay and distract the club from improving itself this winter. Most of those who have been following the team since before October 2003 know that AJ and the front office haven't been on the best terms. No point in using eachother to make a statement to fans or other teams.

way to early for a plan B.

This team isn't going anywhere without a healthy AJ or another high caliber pitcher.

If we are 10 games out (div and WC) by the trade deadline, then you make a trade and get top talent for AJ and others.

We should trade Burnett and Willis plus cash for Zach Day. :plain :shifty

you forgot to include Cabs in the deal too.

:mischief

WTF is wrong with everyone? We are playing bad, so what every team does that. We are one game behind first and people are asking if we should trade away players?

No...no...no...no.

One more time: no.

AJ is too damn valuable to our success, he can't be used to plug a hole. If we reach that point that we have to start "selling" then yeah, dealing him makes sense, but we aren't even in July yet...time to stop overreacting.

Here are the un-tradeables in my opinion (not necessarily in this order)

1. Cabrera (duh!)

2. Beckett

3. Willis

4. A.J.

5. Castillo

6. Lowell

7. Conine

8. Pierre

9. Lo Duca

10. Mota

11. Delgado

Posts about trading any of these guys, especially since we are only 1 game out at this point in the season is beyond comprehension. I mean we'd have to get some amazing talent in return for any of these guys for it to be a good deal for the Marlins. Some people are just panicking too early!

There's no such thing as an untradeable, and I have a hard time putting Lowell, Pierre and Conine in the same breath as Cabrera, Delgado, Beckett and Willis.

People are really starting to worry too early in the season, I think that the only way that AJB is wearing another jersey at the end of the year is if this current slump continues for the next couple months.

lol @ Lowell, JP, Conine

there are people you don't want to part with, and then there are people who are really untradeable

as of today, I can only think of 4 untradeables on the marlins right now:

Cabs

Dontrelle

Beckett

Delgado

My, my some touchy people here. Guess this forum suffers from the same disease as all the others, always reading the cover never the story.

This team is hands down the best Marlins team ever assembled in it's brief history and has the talent to be one of the top 10 teams in the past 15 years. Like I said I'm not worried to much because eventually this offense will click and we'll average 6 or 7 runs a game. I'd bet money that we will win atleast 20 games in a month twice before the season ends and this team does have the ability to finish with triple figures in the win column.

The point of this thread really wasn't meant to be a panic thread, though I guess I made it sound like it. The point was to determine if we should get something for Burnett or risk losing him at the end of the season. Lets look at the facts on why I think he'll leave.

First, they have 3 other players they will want to sign long term before Burnett. These people being Beckett, Willis, and Miguel and a fourth possibility could be Pierre. Thats 3, maybe 4 heavy duty contracts to iron out. Second, Burnett and the front office ain't exactly close buddies and theres a whole lotta tension between Beckett and Burnett though I think thats a plus cause it creates a little extra drive to go out and preform better then that guy. Third, the stadium issue. Without a stadium Loria will not be willing to throw money like we would all love to see. Even his "special money" has a end to it. Fourth, Delgado. Owed 14 million next season. Fifth, if he's healthy imagine what he will get off the market. All he has to do is look at Pavano. 4 year, $40 million for a pitcher that Burnett can beat out anyday and he knows it.

So the question is do we keep him for the run or do we try to improve any gaping hole we may find in July, such as Center Field, Thrid base, Bullpen, ect. and keep THAT player a Marlin for the future such as maybe a Jason Bay or another young gun. No one in baseball in untradeable, look at Beltran and the Big Unit as examples, A-Rod as well.

Anyways I have high hopes for this team, and I cannot see anything under 92 Wins with a serious run into the NLCS and hopefully the World Series for ring #3.

Its tough to tell if Burnett is going to be back, he doesnt like our Front Office so thats one thing but he hasnt had a blow out year yet like Pavano did last year. So i dont know what to expect yet.
