Marlins Public Enemies
From ESPN.com ... He may be on the rival team, he may be on your team. Wherever he is, every baseball fan has one -- the guy you can't help but hate. Florida Marlins: Bobby Cox. Although the way Al Leiter is pitching, he's quickly becoming the top dog in the doghouse. There's also a poll between who Marlins fans hate the most: --- I was wondering, who does everyone think is/are the Marlins public enemies? My ranking is as follows: 1. Wayne Huizenga 2. Bobby Abreu (it seems the guy just KILLS us) 3. PNC Park (I know it's not a WHO, but C'mon!) 4. Chipper / Andruw Jones (I hate them both equally) 5. Gary Sheffield

Reality Check
I don't think Dunlop did anything that Jack wouldn't have done. One thing that really should have been done earlier was let Lenny Harris pinch hit for Lowell MUCH earlier than they did. Lowell is pretty much an automatic out these days. I watched the game on FSN South in Atlanta last night and even their commentators said to pinch hit for Lowell. Would we have won sooner? I don't know, but Lowell sure as hell didn't contribute last night. We need more clutch hitting, bottom line. Fire or trade for whomever you need to -- just stop leaving so many people on base all the time! On a postive note, that was the happiest moment I've seen the players in quite some time. Maybe they'll start playing better -- we already have the talent.

Jack to miss next 2 games
You know, if the Marlins win the next 2 games, everyone who said to fire Jack will be "see, I told ya so". So sad. :banghead

What can we do...
Firing Bill Robinson is not the answer -- the Marlins have one of (if not the) top BA in the league. Yes, they're not scoring with runners on, but is that really Robinsons' fault? Could Eddie Murray, Mattingly or anyone else do a better job? Doubtful. Robinson doesn't swing the bat. Someone also mentioned that starting pitching was a problem. OK.. Leiter is not doing so hot (actually, he's been pretty good lately, just not getting run support). Other than that, they are solid! If you give up 1-2 runs and don't score any, you're going to lose. You can't expect a shut out every time. Todd Jones is as solid of a closer as there is in baseball right now. 9 for 9. Too bad the Marlins never have a lead long enough for him to get in there these days. Perisho, Bump, Mota and the rest of them have been coughing up leads more than Mama Cass on a ham sandwich. Now I read that Loria is going to "make some moves". I think Danny Graves, as cheap as he's available now is a good fit -- provided we don't sign him long term. If he can provide some stability for middle relief (or even close eventually) then so be it. A change from Cincinnati might be just what he needs to get back to the pitcher of old. And, if he turns out to be a Danny Kolb, then, well, he'll be in good company. Get rid of Nate BUMp.

Post your encounters with our favorite people...
This is a little off-topic, but one time I was at a game a few years back and Billy the Marlin was tossing T-shirts into the crowd. It was the 7th inning stretch I believe. A man said to his lady-friend: "Well it's halftime -- let's try to get a T-Shirt." Then he yelled out at the top of his lungs (to Billy the Marlin), "hey Willie!"

Tonights lineup
They got to do something to shake things up! We can't lose 4 straight to the Pirates.

Trade Burnett?
Here are the un-tradeables in my opinion (not necessarily in this order) 1. Cabrera (duh!) 2. Beckett 3. Willis 4. A.J. 5. Castillo 6. Lowell 7. Conine 8. Pierre 9. Lo Duca 10. Mota 11. Delgado Posts about trading any of these guys, especially since we are only 1 game out at this point in the season is beyond comprehension. I mean we'd have to get some amazing talent in return for any of these guys for it to be a good deal for the Marlins. Some people are just panicking too early!

This Is How I Feel
Yes a Braves loss makes the Marlins loss much less terrible. And, if the Marlins lose and Braves win -- there's always the hope that the Yankees lose. It doesn't affect the standings as far as the Marlins are concerned, but something about Derek Jeter and A-Rod losing makes me smile

Two deals fall through
I wouldn't mind seeing Enc go. He's OK, but you have Conine that is more solid all-around player. Everyone wants to deal Leiter and I've heard a lot of talk about getting rid of Pierre "while he's still worth something". That's ridiculous! First of all (a) Al Leiter has had solid starts lately, with NO or little run support and is a big-game pitcher and (b) Pierre is in a slump. He's still as fast as he was before, and the Marlins didn't sign him for his arm anyway. He can get on base, make things happen and can track down fly balls as good as any center fielder out there. If you want to trade everyone with a slump, how about let's deal Lowell -- and why not Willis? He did lose 2 games already. People just need to lighten up. If dumping Enc's large salary for some quality bullpen help is out there -- I say do it. You have Conine waiting in the wings who can easily maintain a .300 average -- and hey, he's Mr. Marlin! When Valdes comes back, he too may be expendable, provided that Moehler doesn't have too many more outings like he did last night (but I think he'll be fine).

Al Lieter the white version of Darren Oliver
I agree with Everlong. I think comparing Leiter to Oliver as a starter is like comparing Mariano Rivera to Alfonseca as a closer.

Marlins Notes From Atlanta
Welcome to the boards! What part of ATL are you from? My sister is in Loganville and my brother lives in the city.... Midtown to be exact. I love going to Turner Field even if the Marlins aren't the away team. It's a beautiful stadium. I really dig the giant drum they have. I'm living in Covington (about 35 miles SE of Atlanta) -- where they filmed My Cousin Vinny and the Dukes of Hazzard. Turner Field is a beautiful place and that hugh HD screen is awesome! Too bad the Braves have to play there. :banghead

Marlins Notes From Atlanta
Hi everyone. I recently moved to Atlanta, unfortunately, from South Florida (Boca Raton, to be exact) and I found this forum after seeing my beloved Marlins split a series with the Braves at Turner Field over the last few days. I'm so glad there's a forum out there for transplanted Marlins fans. First of all, let me say I will NEVER be a Braves fan! That Tomahawk Chop is stupid enough to make me never root for them. And don't get me started on Chipper / Andruw Jones! Even the people in Atlanta don't bother coming to games as the used to since they know even if the Braves win 125 games, they're not going to the Series. What a bunch of miserable choke artists. How fitting they got Mondesi.. Anyway, thank goodness for MLB.COM and Comcast's MLB Extra Innings -- I almost never miss a Marlins game. I went to both games at Turner Field and noticed something odd about Luis Castillo. I realize he's nursing a hip flexor problem, but it seems he's not giving it 100% out there. Example: In the first game vs. Atlanta, Gonzalez threw all ball to Luis that was wide, but Luis didn't even make an effort to come off the bag and get it -- he just watched it sail into the outfield. Even Alex looked frustrated that Louie didn't even try. Then, he was on base and someone (I forget who) got a hit and he just didn't seem like he was paying attention to the 3rd base coach or anything. Sometimes I think he doesn't hustle when he hits ground-ball outs. Anyone else notice this, or is it just me? I love Castillo, but I wish he would give 100%. Next question is Conine. How is my (and many of yours, I would image) favorite player taking the fact that he was an everyday player to sitting on the bench? I know Encarnacion is doing well, but Conine is just not getting the job done as a pinch hitter. Is there any talk in S. Florida about him being unhappy or wanting a trade or anything like that? Unless Encarnacion is hitting a homer every day or something, I think they should platoon him and Conine. We need Niner in the lineup! I look forward to reading your comments on this.
