It has been reported that the Marlins and the Nationals had agreed to a deal that would have sent Enc to Washington for RHP Zach Day, but the deal fell through yesterday when X-rays showed a fracture in Day's throwing wrist.

Also a deal between the Marlins and Reds reportedly fell through when it was discovered that Graves contract would escalate by $500,000 next year.

Dayton Daily News

My guess is the Day/Encarnacion trade would have been just the beginning of a set of trades to re-tool the team.

In jettisoning Encarnacion (even though it was within the division), the Marlins, I believe, were clearing salary and a roster spot to make other moves. Maybe Ramp will get his wish fulfilled and see Willingham in a Marlins uni sooner rather than later (although Willy is almost exclusively being used in Albuquerque at the catching position), or a bigger trade is coming, but Enc's bat will have to be replaced.

In my mind, only Mota, Jones and Mecir's jobs are safe in the bullpen (Alfonseca being on the DL) and we'll probably see Bentz soon, possibly replacing Perisho, and McKeon's comments regarding Graves leads me to believe he'll be here soon, probably taking Smth's roster spot. Then there's Matt Herges who's out there...

But even if the Enc trade fell through, it's good to see Beinfest trying to better the team.

Just say this deal went though.. We would have 7 Starting pitchers. Why would we need 7 Starting Pitchers? (Once Ishy comes back). They must be thinking of trading 1 or 2 of our pitchers :shifty *cough* Leiter *cough* Ishy . Maybe we would get bullpen help or a good hitter in return :)

The problem with that is who is going to want Leiter with his production so far this season? Especially with someone who has pretty much gone out to say that this is his final year.

It would of been a tough deal but we need another starter to replace Leiter. We have Conine on the bench who has gotten hits coming off the bench, thats a good sign.

:lol

Who'd take Leiter?

All we would get in return is a sack full of crap.

Enc is a solid RF but his bat against superior pitching is awful. Day is a solid pitcher, but would have like to see them go after Patterson. I think he's on the DL though

For those people here with short term memory, remmeber that conine not only is good enough to be a starter, but will most likely return to that if enc is traded. I've been saying this is going to happen for some time, now all those who mocked me for syaing we were going to try to move enc can begin the crow eating process.

What this show you that the organization doesn't believe this team can win the division the way its built and a deal is close. Maybe not with the National or Reds but another team(Dodgers?)

The Juan deal show you they are trying to make room for someone..but who? Chris Aguila? Jo Willy? or another player on another team?

Gettin Zach Day in return tells me Leiter days could be numbered. If the Marlins are willing to eat someone salary it should be Leiters, but I have a feeling this might not be the case. the Marlins invested so much time and money on him during the offseason on him. I don't see them trading him away, plus I feel Leiter will be a part of the Marlins organization once he retire.

The Graves thing could be work out with a contract ext., so this one could still get done.

..or just go after Hedges :thumbup

Conine belongs on the bench or better yet on another team if deal is right.

Yeah, because a guy who can play 3 positions capably has zero value. Come on man, Conine's versatility is too valuable for a team with a short bench, thanks to carrying the extra pitcher.

one more thing on the Graves front he was designate him for assignment which means the Reds have 10days to trade him or waive him as of March 25th. So by the end of weekend will have a better idea what the Reds will do.

Why does he belong on the bench? He showed last year he is still capable of being an everyday starter. I hate this nonsense that all of a sudden people think hes a bench player. He hasnt done anything bad enough that he should be on the bench. and the guy theyre making room for by trading enc is conine. sorry guys no willy or aguila, not as starters anyway, not this year.

The window passed yesterday, he's got two days to clear waivers and then he's a FA:

The Reds requested unconditional waivers on Danny Graves Tuesday. That means he will not be traded.

"That is correct," Reds general manager Dan O'Brien said.

Which means the Reds will have to eat what remains on Graves' $6.25 million contract. Any team can claim Graves for $1. The hitch is they have to pay his salary.

If he is not claimed during the 48-hour waiver period, he becomes a free agent.

Great "inside" reporting. :whistle

Great so that means he'll sign with a team by the weekend and maybe an extension

Why the hell would the nationals want encarnacion if they have decent players in the outfield like byrd, wilkerson and guillen? makes no god damn sense and besides day sucks

I think Pierre should be on trading block. He is not the same player he was 2 years ago.

I think you are an idiot for saying that :mad

I think your an idiot for thinking otherwise............

.259 AVG

Can't steal

His fielding is average and is ARM is pathetic.

Trade him while he still has some value..

They are looking for a centerfielder. Peter Gammons mentioned last night how he wouldn't be surprised to see Preston Wilson in Washington very soon.
