June 1, 200521 yr I would have been all for this deal it opens the door to let Willy show what he's got we could use some lightning in a bottle right about now
June 1, 200521 yr Well, it's Enc or Willingham and I'd mucher rather see the older more expensive player ship out. A platoon of 9ner and Willingham would do fine I think.
June 1, 200521 yr Enc isn't that great. He only got 11 RBIs in the whole month of May. And his avg with RISP is .270 for those who were wondering earlier. He had an amazing April, other than that .. he's been average at best in May.
June 1, 200521 yr It was a 3 way deal involving the Rockies and Preston Wilson, not just Zach Day and ENC. 791668 interesting :mischief2 Joe Kennedy anybody? and PFunk back in teal? :o 791713 I think Wilson would have ended up in Washington, they've been hard after him for a while... 791723 your right and Juan would end up in with the Rockies but what would the fish get other than Day...Kennedy?, a prospect?, Sledge? 791733 Sledge wouldn't make much sense. I'd just hope for Kennedy and/or Day, or potentially use those guys in yet another trade. This move was, IMO, the precursor to a big string of domino moves, something Beinfest loves to do.

June 1, 200521 yr I have no problem trading Enc. He's improved some this season, but he's not in our long-term plans much less our next season plans. We have at least one capable replacement in 9ner and 2 other guys who could surprise as well in Dillon and Willingham. Trade from strength to get a starter and something. I dig. 791740 Well said. 791799 Don't forget about Chris Agulia or Matt Padgett who is hitting .358 OBP .420 SLG .617 with 11HR ...not bad
June 1, 200521 yr trading enc opens the door for conine to return to the lineup. someone pointed that out. i dont know who. we need an arm. we have 4 starters, we need a fifth. leiter is done. and there is nothing on the horizon that is ready.
June 1, 200521 yr Trading Juan E. for Zach Day is not a great deal. The reason the Fish would do this is to start Conine and bring up Josh Willingham.

June 1, 200521 yr Conflicting reports. Some say it was a three-team deal. Others say it was Day and 'somebody else" for Enc. 791694 It was a 3-way deal according to Nats beat writer Bill Ladson.

Preston Wilson to the Nats Juan Encarancion to the Rockies Zach Day and something else to the Fish right?

June 1, 200521 yr Enc isn't that great.? He only got 11 RBIs in the whole month of May.? And his avg with RISP is .270 for those who were wondering earlier.? He had an amazing April, other than that .. he's been average at best in May. 791755 Willingham hit 12 HR's in the month of May. 791771 Not really sure what that has to do with Enc's production . . .

It's Josh Willingham!!! :plain
June 2, 200521 yr Im not so sure I get the Day trade. The Marlins are staying active though, which is nice.

Preston Wilson and $$$ to the Nats, Encarnacion and Day to the Rockies, Kennedy and a Nats' prospect to the Marlins
June 2, 200521 yr What do the Marlins do with Leiter if they trade for a starter like Day or Kennedy? Bullpen or release him? Would the Marlins do that? I think you've gotta stick with him until at least the midway point and pray he gets through it. And it seems kinda early in the year to be pulling off big trades like this. Just a thought, but.... could this be a precursor to a Burnett deadline trade????? Acquiring a young starter to replace AJ down the road? Heck, if Beinfest can get a similar package as he did for Penny, it's prob worth it considering AJ's prob gone at year's end anyway. Though AJ would be clutch to have in the stretch run.
June 2, 200521 yr http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/cont...2redsnotes.html Dayton Daily News reports the deal was a three-way deal where: Nationals get: Juan Encarnacion Reds get: Zach Day Marlins get: Danny Graves Turns out it was all an attempted salary dump.

It was said the Marlins would be paying Enc's contract. And Graves has millions left on his contract and any team that trades or picks him off waivers would be responsible for the contract.
June 2, 200521 yr I wouldn't mind seeing Enc go. He's OK, but you have Conine that is more solid all-around player. Everyone wants to deal Leiter and I've heard a lot of talk about getting rid of Pierre "while he's still worth something". That's ridiculous! First of all (a) Al Leiter has had solid starts lately, with NO or little run support and is a big-game pitcher and (b) Pierre is in a slump. He's still as fast as he was before, and the Marlins didn't sign him for his arm anyway. He can get on base, make things happen and can track down fly balls as good as any center fielder out there. If you want to trade everyone with a slump, how about let's deal Lowell -- and why not Willis? He did lose 2 games already. People just need to lighten up. If dumping Enc's large salary for some quality bullpen help is out there -- I say do it. You have Conine waiting in the wings who can easily maintain a .300 average -- and hey, he's Mr. Marlin! When Valdes comes back, he too may be expendable, provided that Moehler doesn't have too many more outings like he did last night (but I think he'll be fine).

The Marlins would have been scewed. 792892 I agree we would've been getting screwed. I would've been all for trading Enc for Day, but Graves is done, and the bullpen should not be our main concern at this point.
