June 17, 200521 yr obviously take these name with a grain of salt. (please note that I am only relaying what has been posted and not my own opinions or falsehoods) This guy on Mlb.com has thrown some names and the only reason I possibly could belive him is b/c the random nature that he is throwing them in. Marlins players on the block: Aguila Perisho Dillon Encarnacion Crowell Ben Howard Mota Players Marlins are interested in: Lidge Mesa Grabow Brett Myers? (even though he is inner division) Randy Winn Vernon Wells Zito As I said before these are not my word but a conglomeration of about 10 or 12 post on mlb.com's forum. Please don't shoot me I am only the messenger. I figured a new topic with a few new names attached may not be so bad. Something new to discuss and at the very least get some laughs.
June 17, 200521 yr Our trash and underperforming players for their gold? I think the same poster frequents the ESPN, Sportsline and this board. :lol
June 17, 200521 yr If you are looking for an OF....Jay Payton is currently on the block as he has formally asked the Red Sox to trade him. I dont know if they will, considering we need a backup OF, but his name is most likely out there now.
June 17, 200521 yr I'd take him but I think he wants playing time and that's really something we can't offer barring injury. Is Grabow supposed to be Derrick Turnbow?
June 17, 200521 yr In ESPN Magazine, Steve Phillips suggested the Marlins go after Miguel Batista. I know his name was also tossed around in the offseason--it'd be an interesting idea since he's a pitcher who can start and come out of the pen but I don't know who the Jays would be looking for from us.
June 17, 200521 yr Author keep in mind guys, that there have been other marlins names brought up in trade discussions besides the ones above. I mainly posted this because the names of the guys that we were interested in supposedly. I mainly wanted to get peoples take on the direction that the club may be looking in. Obviously stressing the word "MAY".
June 17, 200521 yr I would like to see us land Batista, Zito, and Mesa, not my first choice, but it makes sense, since we might have enough to aquire these guys. But if we can I'd pick Lidge, Zito, and Myers........back to reality.
June 17, 200521 yr uh...the players on that list that we would give away are much worse than the players who we are interested in...so the chances of that being realistic are slim.

Their current backup catcher is hitting below the Mendoza line. We could do alot worse than Miguel Batista although he has been used exclusively out of the pen and as a closer where he has 12 saves. But like with other trades there's a downside, Batista makes almost $5 million this season and giving up Willy for a guy who may not be here next year seems to me a high price to pay.
