JP and Lowell: How much is enough?

Can someone just please atleast answer me why Jack still keeps putting him to bat leadoff.

It can raise his confidence.

He's used to hitting there, so it's alternatively for his benefit to stay there.

He's a leadoff type hitter, so he should either be in the #1 or #2 spot. He's good because of his speed, and putting him at the end of the order like at #8 would totally take his speed away and make it useless.

It makes sense that he should break out of his slump, because he's never been in a slump like this, so he should stay there.

He uses his speed to get on base--usually through a bunt--infield hit, or just finding a hole in the infield, and then he steals second base. If he were to do that in the #8 spot then it would be useless with the pitcher coming up after. He needs good hitters right behind him to drive him in.

Well since he isnt getting on base, I guess thats something he doesnt have to worry about for now. :lol

Yup, there's nowhere you can put him the way he's been hitting. I've been seeing him a lot like the way he looks in your sig in his slump. Frustrated. He needs something to start him up again. We need to go to Coors...man does he love Coors! If we would go to Coors then he would have a nice 3 game series there, porbably have 12 hits or something, and he'd be back on track. But I believe we only have 3 games this season at Coors and we already played them....

I wouldn't mind seeing Aguila get a shot. At this point I am for giving anyone a shot who will produce. Maybe you get a Millar situation where comes up and sticks in the bigs. They say Mike Cameron is on the market in NY. Is he worth trading for?

One of the callers on Boog's show today asked Gammons why Willingham isn't up in the bigs...

I wonder that, myself...

JP will break out of the slump. Lowell I'm more worried about. I really think Willy deserves a shot at 3rd (or Cabs), and Mikey should go to 1/2 A Aushwitz for a week or two.

wtf

I'd like him, but he may be too much money. We'd need 7-8 million for him, and his only good season has been this season. His highest BA in his 10 year career before this seaosn=.267, his BA this season=.320.

No to Cameron, he sucks. The word is Kotsay is on the market, should we consider bringing him back? Yankees are also looking to get him and use him in the leadoff or #2 spot. It's been mentioned on some other formum that there could be a 3-way sending JP to NY, Kotsay here and Yanks prospects to Oakland. I could live with that. Have Luis hit leadoff and Kotsay 2nd. This doesn't have to happen if JP starts doing what he is supposed to do but the clock is ticking and patience is running thin.

I'd take Kotsay in a heartbeat, but if the Yankees are keen to him, they're going to get him.

Exactly what I was thinking, so forget about him, and maybe we'll go after Cameron, but I don't think we should. But we should atleast consider him.

why should we consider him?

he blows and makes a ton of money

Then he'd be perfect!

We might want to take a chance and think that he's going to perform next year as well as he is this season. If he does, then 7-8 million could be worth this production, that's why.

It's just a small consideration if were desperate.

you are being a fool if you think we would take on that kind of salary for a mediocre player

Why is everyone in love with Kotsay? He has no power and isn't going to hit over .300 anytime soon. He makes 6.5 milion on top of that. I'd take my chances on Pierre snapping out of it.

It is time to call the Dodgers and see what we can get for Lowell. If they take his salary, I'd take a bag of balls right now. If they would give a nice prospect or two, maybe we could package them with some of our prospects and get Zito from Oakland. Move Cabrera to 3B and bring up Willingham for LF.

And while I'm ranting, try to trade Enc as well and acquire Dunn from the Reds. His AVG sucks but he at least walks a lot. He'd be fine hitting in our 5th hole. Hell, I'd even take Griffey right now. He looks to finally be healthy and could help our sorry offense out.

Lowell hitting 5th really chaps my caboose. He's not hitting with anywhere near enough power to be in an RBI position in the order. Enc/Conine should be there, but then we'd hear players crying about the order changing again. I wouldn't be surprised if Aguila and Willingham came up and produced better than Pierre and Lowell. Maybe they'd inject some life into the offense. The PR hit would be substantial, but if they produced it would blow over fast.
