June 22, 200521 yr Do they bust out of their slump or bust, or what? This is not a mini slump, this is almost 3 months into the season. How come JP keeps hitting lead-off? I think scouts have figured JP, and he isn't going to be the same player (at least this year). I can understand JP playing everyday, but in the leadoff spot? If those two keep struggling and they are kept in the line-up, kiss any Marlins playoffs hopes goodbye. I think the FO and Jack, will keep those guys playing regardless of the outcome. So is either hit or bust this season.
June 22, 200521 yr I am all for trades because I think this team has lost its leadership on the field and in the clubhouse. But until that happens I'd like to see Dillon get some AB's at 3B and I'd like to see Aguila back up getting some AB's. Maybe it simply pushes Lowell and Pierre or maybe it gives the team a spark.....but it is something other than spinning our wheels.
June 22, 200521 yr I can't see JP going anywhere but it might be the only thing left to do. We've rearranged lineups...nothing. We've sat him...nothing. We put him back in the leadoff...nothing. I still think he is a integral part of the heart of this team and would be a PR mistake but if we made a move and it fired up the team then I'd live with it, enough is enough.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what can be done with Lowell right now...He has had big slumps before, but this one is bordering on a full year now (dating back to last season).
June 22, 200521 yr Im just so sick and tired of seeing Jp leading off not doing anything. And as for Lowell start pulling the ball ur swings are disgusting. He swings at the away sliders but then when a fastball down the middle is pitched he strikes out looking. What happened to the lowell last year that made every pitcher pay for his mistakes. Enough is Enough they have shown progress in there slump and i think need to be traded before they hurt the team anymore.
June 22, 200521 yr I've just about had it with JP. Luis Castillo is so much of a better lead off hitter. Luis takes pitches, makes the pitcher work, gets on base, etc, etc. Juan basically swings at anything once the count is 0-2. At least Lowell has shown signs, and is batting .309 in June. Here is what we have to do. 1) Get rid of JP & ENC and perhaps Leiter. 2) Get some sort of bullpen help or a decent #5 starter. Either will do 3) Move Lo Duca or Conine up to the #2 spot 4) Get a decent CF who can hit in the #7 or #8 spot. If we can't do #4, at least move JP down to the #7 or #8 spot. Bringing up Willingham is not really an option since he can't play CF. You can play ENC in CF but taking JP out of the lineup and putting ENC back in would be moving backwards.
June 22, 200521 yr THEY ARE BOTH DONE!!!!!!!!!!!! KILL LOWELL and bring in the mighty DAMION EASLEY!!!!!!!!!
June 22, 200521 yr The one aspect of Pierre when he slumps is he pouts. And that can't be good for clubhouse morale.
June 22, 200521 yr JP has been consistent until his recent slump began. Because of that, he's probably going to turn it around before the season ends. Of coarse he still won't look so good at the end of the season, since he dug himself such a deep hole, but he hopefully won't look so bad. He's good because of his speed, and his great bunting, and he still has those skills, so we shouldn't get rid of him. Lowell on the other hand has gone into slumps in the past. Of coarse he's still been hitting his doubles,(2nd in club only 1 behind Delgado) but he hasn't been sufficient enough, and I've been hating every time he comes up to the plate this season. If he doesn't hit .280 or higher from here on out in the season then I would like to get rid of him. He fits in great in this club, being that he speaks spanish, is a nice guy...etc. But you have to let go sometimes.
June 22, 200521 yr JP has been consistent until his recent slump began.820037 Do you consider 2 months recent?
June 22, 200521 yr Can someone just please atleast answer me why Jack still keeps putting him to bat leadoff.
June 22, 200521 yr If he doesn't hit .280 or higher from here on out in the season then I would like to get rid of him. 820037 I could care less about his batting average. He could be hitting .350 right now, and if he only had 3 home runs at this point in the season I'd say he's not getting it done. He just hasn't been hitting the ball like he used too, and I think there's a good chance we may never see the old Mike Lowell again.
June 22, 200521 yr Author Can someone just please atleast answer me why Jack still keeps putting him to bat leadoff. 820043 due to all the whining on the club house, Jack decided to go to opening day line up. Basically sending the message, "hit or shut up". Apparently, they aren't going to hit

He's a leadoff man, his OBP is what matters. He isn't supposed to really hit the ball either. All he is suppose to do is make the pitcher work, not strikeout, and utilize his speed by bunting and getting a lot of infield hits, and then maybe stealing second base.

June 22, 200521 yr Can someone just please atleast answer me why Jack still keeps putting him to bat leadoff. 820043 It can raise his confidence. He's used to hitting there, so it's alternatively for his benefit to stay there. He's a leadoff type hitter, so he should either be in the #1 or #2 spot. He's good because of his speed, and putting him at the end of the order like at #8 would totally take his speed away and make it useless. It makes sense that he should break out of his slump, because he's never been in a slump like this, so he should stay there.
June 22, 200521 yr I have faith in them..................... :plain (Hears tons of crickets in background.)

June 22, 200521 yr One of the callers on Boog's show today asked Gammons why Willingham isn't up in the bigs... I wonder that, myself... JP will break out of the slump. Lowell I'm more worried about. I really think Willy deserves a shot at 3rd (or Cabs), and Mikey should go to 1/2 A Aushwitz for a week or two.
