Burnett, it was joke. Have you ever heard the saying "If a tree falls in a forest,..."? You dont have to take everything so literally.

1-0 Mets top of the second.

I know its only the first week into spring training, but the ERAs of our five top starters are 5.40, 27.00, 9.00, 9.00, and 4.50. I know its not a cause for concern now, but when pitchers are supposed to be ahead of hitters, not one of the starters has come out clean.

Ouch... they need to step up or we're heading for a very long season. :plain

Mets took a 5-3 lead by scoring four runs in the 7th off of Oswaldo Mareina, home runs by Jason Phillips and John Wilson. The Marlins then tied it up with two runs in the bottom of the 7th on a home run by Seung-Yeop Lee.

Mets edge Marlins in 10 innings

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Marlins had a defensive breakdown in the 10th inning, committing two errors and a wild pitch, assisting the Mets to a 7-6 victory Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium.

Right-fielder Robert Stratton's overthrow to third base allowed Jeff Duncan to score the go-ahead run in the 10th inning off Toby Borland, who took the loss.

Duncan led off with a single and he scored on Craig Brazell's single to right. Brazell raced home on a wild pitch.

The Marlins now have lost four straight.

Korean stars Seung-Yeop Lee and Jong-Soo Shim, who homered in the extra inning to bring the Marlins within one run, each homered in the loss for Florida.

Seung-Yeop Lee, a guest of the Marlins until Sunday, belted a two-run home run to right in the seventh off Tyler Walker to tie the game at 5. Lee is a four-time MVP for the Samsung Lions, where he is under contract for one more season. After 2003, he plans on becoming a free agent and hopes to play in the Major Leagues.

In the top of the seventh, the Mets scored four runs off left-hander Oswaldo Mairena to take a 5-3 lead. Jason Phillips smacked a solo home run and Vance Wilson blasted a two-run shot.

Sherman Obando's RBI double and Mike Mordecai's run-scoring single in the fourth inning put the Marlins ahead 2-1 in the third inning.

The Marlins rolled off four straight hits against Steve Trachsel to grab the lead. Chad Allen singled and scored on Obando's double to left. Andy Fox's single to right put runners on the corners for Mordecai, who tapped a single up the middle.

Brad Penny has an effective second start, giving up one run on one hit in three innings. While he struck out two, his lone walk ended up scoring.

In the second, Penny issued a leadoff walk to Tony Clark, who scored on Jay Bell's double to right-center.

A wild pitch moved Bell to third, but Penny finished up by retiring the final six batters he faced.

For the most part Penny was around the plate. Of his 40 pitches, 27 were strikes.

Marlins catcher Mike Redmond left the game after the second inning with a bruised right wrist after being stepped on by Mets third baseman Jay Bell.

I don't care as much about late innings stuff in these games. They're full of players who won't be with the team. Robert Stratton certainly won't, and it's questionable whether Mereina will make the team either.

Penny had a good start, and that's what's most important.
