July 4, 200521 yr Enc can go on streaks but he doesn't seem to give a s*** whether this team wins or loses. I rather have somebody with a passion to win that somebody with talent just in it for the money. 837324 Exactly, how can you say this with certainty? How do you know when a player cares, or doesn't care? He has a reputation among teammates of being a pretty stoic guy. I hate when people think they can look into people's souls by watching them play baseball on tv. 837699 I totally agree with you on this. Enc might not show much outward emotion in the few hours a day people see him on television (which is obviously way too impersonal of a medium to judge his desire - unless someone is in the clubhouse every day, I don't think you can say all that much about a player's personality with any certainty, and even then it can be dicey if a player isn't very outgoing), but that doesn't mean he doesn't care if his team wins or loses - Alex Gonzalez seems to be the same personality wise (not very outwardly emotional, hence the nickname Sea Bass), but I don't hear many people questioning his desire. But then again, Alex isn't blocking Mr. Marlin from playing time.
July 4, 200521 yr As people, players are who they are, not who we want them to be. For every JP who wears his emotions on his sleeve there's a Juan Encarnacion who never let's you know what he's feeling inside. We can project all want but it's a mistake.
