July 2, 200521 yr While the Orioles have talked to Florida about Marlins starter A.J.BurnettMike Lowell, who likely would be moved to first base if acquired by Baltimore, says the Washington Post. A deal for Burnett could include Lowell, who is making $7.5 million this season and is signed through next year. The cost-cutting Marlins might try to unload his salary. If true the team has gone far enough with Lowell and is ready to move Cabs to 3B and bring up Hermida but who comes back our way? Penn, Loewen, Markakis or Cabrera 2 out of 4 are a MUST
July 2, 200521 yr Really it depends on how much of Lowell's salary the Orioles are willing to pick up. If they pick up the entire thing, I'd say 2 out of 4 for sure (plus potential other throw ins). If not, I'd say ask for 2 out of your 4 plus something else, like another prospect or decent MLB player.
July 2, 200521 yr I rather dump Enc's salary than Lowells. I might be a blind fan, but am optimistic Lowell will come back to form.
July 2, 200521 yr I rather dump Enc's salary than Lowells. 835518 lol, Enc about $2 million on his contract still why we owe Lowell $22 million still. So if you can get rid of lowell's contract you do it.
July 2, 200521 yr I'm ready for a deal. If they'll take Lowell's entire contract with AJ for Cabrera/Julio/prospect(s), do it. Use our prospects to try to acquire a big bat like Adam Dunn and move on. Lowell is F'N terrible.
July 2, 200521 yr I still haven't figured out why so many people want to get rid of Encarnacion. Not only has he been a consistently decent player, but he has been getting better. I think getting rid of him will only hurt us for now unless we can actually replace the things he contributes to the team. We can't sacrifice any offense without bringing more in.

He had off-season surgery to fix the problem and has been very solid for us this year. He is the #3 RBI producer on the team, is hitting .333 with RISP and has excellent range in RF. He only has 2 errors and has a zone rating over .900. Not too shabby if you ask me.

July 2, 200521 yr I agree Encarnacion has being a solid player for us. Although he can be frustrating to watch sometimes he's doing enough to get the job done.

In this situation theoretically Cabrera moves to third base and you can put Niner (or call up Hermida) in LF and keep Encarnacion in RF. The subtraction of Lowell from the Offense.... based on what he has done until this point in the year would be a plus. However I really hope Mike breaks out of it, I'm a big fan.

It's easy to only see the negative if that is all you are looking for.
July 2, 200521 yr Enc can go on streaks but he doesn't seem to give a s*** whether this team wins or loses. I rather have somebody with a passion to win that somebody with talent just in it for the money.
July 3, 200521 yr wtf move Lowell to first base? He is an excellent 3b man.... 836271 I don't know. The Orioles already have a pile of first basemen. They have not only Raffy, but also Jay Gibbons who can play first, plus Walter Young (who's hitting .300 with 10 HRs, 49 RBI at Ottawa, which doesn't quite have a hitter-friendly park) and Alejandro Freire (similar numbers to Walter at Ottawa). So their wanting to turn Lowell into a first baseman has me scratching my head too...

How do you know when a player cares, or doesn't care? He has a reputation among teammates of being a pretty stoic guy. I hate when people think they can look into people's souls by watching them play baseball on tv.
July 3, 200521 yr Enc has been playing well this year, but the fact remains that if we dont trade him, we'll lose him and get nothing more than a draft pick. If a good offer comes up that can help the team in other areas such as the bullpen, then its defintely worth it to shop him around. until then i wish him the best

If offered to him he likely will except it and then we would have to keep him. He will likely get a raise to 6 million through arbitration. Not the case with Burnett cause if we offer it to him he will likely decline it cause he would get more through free-agency meaning we get draft picks for him. The reason the Marlins prefer trading players than getting picks is that you have to pay large signing bonus to get them on your team and they take longer to develop.
July 3, 200521 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/salaries?team=fla I don't know if it would help to dump leiter, but.. he really , really sucks and I don't see him improving any time soon. His salary is ridiculous and it would really free up some money

I don't know what Leiters contract is and if any team would take him but we should definetly make a trade or some deal to get rid of Lowel. I love the guy but half the season in passed. He needs a change of scenery or something. Staying here is hurting him and the Marlins.

I dont see how anything could be done with him because no one would want to pick up his salary.. because he sucks
