Heck I'd take a chance at him.. If nothing else, as insurance.. Carmen Cali and Randy Flores wont give me a whole lot of confidence in the playoffs.. Then again I doubt Stanton will either..

The only contending National league teams that play on Thursday (according to his agent he will be ready then).. Washington, Chicago, Florida, Atlanta, and San Diego..

So they said Thursday right? Well then take out Chicago and San Diego since they havent been talked about much for Stanton..

Washington (Very possible), Florida (possible), Atlanta (doubt it)..

I would say Washington if I had to say..

Then again I may be reading too much into the Thursday comment. It could just mean he's ready to play on a contending team on Friday after getting there on Thursday with the team.. Hmm..

The Yankees have until today to trade or release designated left-hander Mike Stanton. Afforded the chance to become a free agent, Stanton said he would entertain a Marlins offer. "It looks like they could use some help in the bullpen," Stanton said. "They're definitely a team I'd consider. I don't think it will take very long [to sign]." The Marlins aren't the only team hoping to get in Stanton's ear should he become available. The Nationals, Braves, Cardinals and Astros also are in the mix.

i like those words. he knows we need help and he wants to help

Notes: Cards might add lefty

DETROIT -- While rumors swirl that the Cardinals may sign veteran reliever Mike Stanton, two Cardinals representatives indicated on Tuesday that such a move was unlikely. Stanton, 38, was recently released by the Yankees.

The New York Daily News reported on Tuesday that Stanton had likely already agreed to a deal either with the Cardinals or Nationals. However, a Cardinals executive indicated that no deal was in place, and pitching coach Dave Duncan suggested that Stanton would not be a perfect fit for the Cardinals.

Ray King and Randy Flores have formed an effective left-handed tandem for the Cards so far this season. King sports a 2.52 ERA, including 1.50 since the start of June, and has been pitching more effectively over the past six weeks or so than earlier in the season. Flores has struggled in his last two outings -- one before going on the disabled list, immediately upon his return -- but overall has enjoyed an excellent season.

The Cardinals' field staff does not consider Stanton to be clearly better at this point than either King or Flores. Duncan agreed with a suggestion that perhaps Stanton might be best served by going to the Minor Leagues to get sorted out. However, according to the Daily News, Stanton expects to be pitching for a Major League contender by this weekend.
