So, the very day after I put the little paypal thing in my siggy, I get an e-mail from "paypal" for maitinance (sp) and regarding a security alert. So I'm thinking "great, what the hell". Word of advice, do not read this s*** while your tired, you will f*** up. So I open the e-mail and there's a fraud warning, yada yada yad. They give me a claim number and everything. So I click the link which took me to paypal.com. Or so I thought. I log in and start punching in my info and then it wants me to verify my card. So I start punching it in and then I see it want's my pin number, so I'm like WTF!? So I log out and it takes me to the same page I'm on. Really suspicous.

 

So I type in www.paypal.com and log in from there. Hmmmm...everything logs in just like it always has. Naturally, I go to find the customer service number and call them up ASAP. At which point I am informed they never sent anything and had me forward the e-mail to them and change my paypal account password. Then they brought up a really good point that didn't click. When I clicked logout, I may have been submiting my information. Great. So immediately, I call up my bank and tell them about my fraudulant situation. So they cancelled my card and are sending me a new one with a new account number.

 

So, I got everything squared away and changed and within a matter of minutes from clicking that damned link, I'd say about ten minutes. Still, I can't believe that tricked me. I mean, it was unbelievable professional right down to the URL, but still, I've never once fallen for anything like that. I feel like such a fool. So now, I'm doing a spy scan with Spybot and Ad-Aware. Still, it just goes to show that even the best of us can make an idiotic and retarded blunder.

 

 

 

Still, because I took all the steps immediately, I think I should be ok, but if I'm not, I'll keep you guys updated.

Sorry to hear about that Bradcore. I get fraudulant e-mails from "EBay" all the time. I didn't go along with any of them, but I did contact the real EBay to let them know about it. I really wish there were legal ways to track e-mails so that spammers and scammers could be caught more easily. People get away with far too many scams on the internet.

My experience was when people were sending around that link that said "Work Sucks" and it was supposed to be about work place jokes. Instead, my computer started blaring, "Hey everybody, I'm looking at gay porno." And it had really nasty pictures pop up. That was going around the dorms a lot my freshman year.

I've gotten plenty of those paypal emails and even emails from banks that I don't even have an account with. I always try to report them when I get them even if I don't click on the links just so that hopefully they get caught.
