Actual Press Release Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez and Florida Marlins outfielder Miguel Cabrera have been named co-winners of Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of July 18-24, 2005. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank?s long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment. Ramirez led the league with six home runs, 11 RBI, 34 total bases and was tied for the league lead with 14 hits. Over seven games played he hit .467 (14-30) with nine runs scored and two doubles. The 2005 NL All-Star constructed a 1.133 slugging percentage and a .515 on base percentage. Ramirez collected at least one hit in all seven games and drove in a season-high five runs on July 19th at Cincinnati. Cabrera led the league with a .522 (12-23) batting average and a 1.261 slugging percentage. The right-handed slugger hit five home runs with nine RBI, nine runs scored and 29 total bases. In six games he hit two doubles and compiled a .577 on-base percentage to help lead the Marlins to a 4-2 record. Cabrera, also a 2005 NL All-Star, collected at least one hit in every game and scored at least one run in five of his six contests. Other nominees this past week included Atlanta?s Andruw Jones (.348, 5 HR, 9 RBI); Houston?s Lance Berkman (.438, 3 HR, 8 RBI) and Roy Oswalt (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 6 SO); Washington?s John Patterson (1-0, 0.56 ERA, 18 SO); Cincinnati?s Rich Aurilia (.400, 7 RBI), Adam Dunn (.333, 4 HR, 9 RBI) and Aaron Harang (1-0, 3.00 ERA, 1 CG); Jose Reyes (.444, 7 R, 7 SB) of the New York Mets; Arizona?s Royce Clayton (.481, 4 RBI) and Quentin McCracken (.500, 4 RBI); San Francisco?s Pedro Feliz (.375, 3 HR, 7 RBI); Milwaukee?s Lyle Overbay (.400, 3 HR, 8 RBI); Albert Pujols (.333, 3 HR, 7 RBI) of St. Louis; Pittsburgh?s Jason Bay (.379, 5 2B, 5 RBI); Odalis Perez (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Cabrera?s Florida teammates A.J. Burnett (2-0, 2.03 ERA, 10 SO), Juan Encarnacion (.375, 2 HR, 8 RBI) and Paul Lo Duca (.400, 6 R); and Ramirez?s Cubs teammate Derrek Lee (.333, 4 HR, 8 RBI). As part of the award, Bank of America will make a $1,000 donation to the Little League Urban Initiative on behalf of Aramis Ramirez and Miguel Cabrera.
