August 7, 200521 yr Delgado out for (at least) 5 days (hopefully not more), Encarnacion out for a few days (hopefully, not more), LoDuca out for a couple of days (hopefully not more)... Holy Crap. And Willingham out for modern history. Jorgy ready for journeyman's duty. Holy Crap. DL's open roster spots. Will we have enough "open" roster spots to bring up Andino and Hermida? I think the Marlins are dragging their injured ass by not DL'ing injured players and bringing up competent players for a week or so. We are very "thin." I'd like some space for Andino and Hermida.
August 7, 200521 yr How do we have any open roster spots? I don't believe as of this writing we have any.
August 7, 200521 yr I would think that they'll do exactly what they've done previously regarding injured players, wait and see. While Delgado sat they were without another bat on the bench, but unless there is an injury they don't use the bench much anyway. I would think after the DH on Monday they'll send down Messenger and bring up a player for the bench.
August 7, 200521 yr The only way Hermida will see playing time is if Encarnacion is out for an extended period of time. Delgado is expected back on Friday because it's not his elbow anymore, it's his hand that's bothering him, and the prevailing thought is that 5 days of inactivity will do him good. Also, the problem with going DL happy with the guys mentioned is that these are 3 of our 4 most productive hitters on the team, and DL-ing Enc and LoDuca means we lose those guys for two weeks...we're holding out hope we only have to play shorthanded for 2 or 3 more days.
August 7, 200521 yr One postive out there has been the play of NINER. I would rather see a bullpen arm called up than Hermida rotting on the bench.

The Hermida call makes sense because it puts a lefty in the lineup (with Delgado out) speed on the bases and an infusion of youth (look at what Francoeur is doing in Atlanta), and it lets Aguila go back to being the 4th OF.

The reason all of Atlantas Rookies have been playing good is beacuse they are getting the playing time. Hermida would just sit on the bench and it is impossible to become hot and play good when you are averaging 4 ab's a week. on the other hand if Hermida were to be called up and become an everyday player i would be all for that.
August 7, 200521 yr We have like 31 games in 30 days.....not a good time to be injured. 892306[/snapback] We actually have an off-day on the 15th and then go back to having a normal schedule.
