I don't care that he didn't get a curtain call and I quit caring what broadcasters say a long time ago. With the internet, they can't tell you a damn thing you don't already know. Waste of time to care about anything that comes out of their mouths.
September 1, 200521 yr Why do you guys put so much into every comment made by these talking heads? Brantley was a so-so reliever in his time and a so-so commentator in this time. Stop letting every comment get under your guys skin.

Stop letting every comment get under your guys skin. 924961 I think this is the first post I've ever made at mb.com relating to a negative comment made by an analyst/broadcaster.It's significant, Gooch, because it was on the national stage. People around the country get to hear Brantley diss the Marlin fans... Coupled with the already-imfamous 'fair weathered' title, Brantley manages to add yet another level of classlessness (word?) to our fans. It doesn't upset me because he said it, because I've never let comments affect me personally. What upsets me is that there are people who have never been to Miami who are getting the wrong impression of our city and citizens.
September 1, 200521 yr Obviously Brantley isn't talking about fans like us. Unfortunately, we're still in the minority when it comes to Marlins games

September 1, 200521 yr It sounds as if he was comparing St. Louis and Florida's fans. If he says Marlins fans are not as classy as Cardinals' fans, I don't see where you can jump to him saying we are terrible fans or not classy. St. Louis is a great baseball town, known for the rare act of respecting their opponents. Don't get your knickers in such a twist. Anyway, what is with fans who feel the need to be righteous martyrs? Not just here, but it seems more quotes and articles are posted and/or garner more responses if they are perceived to be slighting the team than if they were praising the team. Is it a matter of what our minds want to retain? Or is it that local media is all over the good news so from the national media all we hear is old news, whether it be good or bad? Seriously, what's the deal?

Seriously, what's the deal? 925049 Sorry bro, I posted this in-game, about 10 seconds after Brantley uttered the obnoxious words. He said 'If this game was in St. Louis, Hermida would have gotten a curtain call, because those fans are classy.. It wasn't just that he said that, but he also mentioned several other degrading comments about the fans of S. Florida. Martyr? WTF? I don't mind you pseudo-insulting people that post this kind of stuff everyday, but come on--I've been on this site a while, and how often do I complain about things like this?
September 1, 200521 yr Author Ok, to put an end to this: Hermida moved briskly around the bases after the homer, yet after returning to the dugout and slapping hands with several delighted teammates, he did not acknowledge long, loud cheers from the sparse crowd that remained -- missing the chance for his first career curtain call. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250831128 Eat that, Brantley.
September 1, 200521 yr Frankly I don't remember your posting history well enough to know, it's just a trend I spot. Over on the Nats board, they're wondering if the Nats' pitcher are given a smaller strike zone than other teams and if the reason why only one player will be called up at 12:01 am September 1st is because MLB is tightening the budget. I still think you're reading far too much into his comments regarding St.Louis and South Florida's class. Any criticism Marlins fans get for not filling the place is in part brought on by themselves. You really shouldn't expect a national baseball analyst to have a firm grip on the situation at the local level.

This situation is specific to Florida and has been for years. Poor attendance, unfaithful fans. Everyone knows it--heck, I know it. But a national broadcaster doens't blatantly disrespect fans of a team. I don't know by what codes you abide, but that just isn't right. The sad truth is that most sports lack professional, unbiased reporters and broadcasters. Guys like Bob Costas no longer exist.
