BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 2005--The Walt Disney Company (NYSEIS - News) announced today that it will make a corporate contribution of $2.5 million to the relief and rebuilding efforts for victims of Hurricane Katrina. One million dollars will be donated to the American Red Cross for immediate relief efforts, one million dollars will be designated for rebuilding efforts targeted at children's charities, and the remaining $500,000 will be directed towards volunteer centers providing services to the communities affected by the hurricane.

"The devastation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina is simply heartbreaking and our thoughts are with those struggling in the aftermath of this disaster," said Michael Eisner, CEO, and Bob Iger, president, COO and CEO-elect of The Walt Disney Company. "We hope that our donation will aid emergency management teams and organizations in their efforts to provide assistance to those impacted."

The New York Yankees and the NFL donated 1 million each, I believe.

Good to see corporations giving some money to those who need it.

Steinbrenner donated 1 million.

And I thought that the billion dollar corporation that is the NFL was a little light imo. Any gift is great, and it will be used well, but just a million? That should have been the minimum for each team.....

I thought the same about the NFL, but since I've grown rather sick of people chastizing those who go out of their way to give for not giving more (not you, people in the past) I've taken the approach that it's 1 million more than the relief efforts previously had.

I had thought Steinbrenner donated it in the name of the Yankees but wasn't sure, thanks.

Tags needs to keep some money so he can send lawyers to bust players for wearing illegal shoes/headbands/etc.

Good to see Disney and others trying to help the Gulf Coast in its greatest time of need.

Walmart could have donated a lot more IMO.

Im not saying they are, or will, but I wouldnt be suprised if Wal-Mart donates goods and clothing....

I'm pretty sure Wal-Mart is taking amnesty on people stealing crap from their stores.

I was ready to post that, until I saw you post it.

Actually, it seems like Wal-Mart will be donating 15 million:

BENTONVILLE, Ark., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Following President

Bush's announcement today that former Presidents Bush and Clinton will lead a

nationwide fundraising effort to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, Wal-

Mart President and CEO Lee Scott contacted President Clinton and the White

House and committed $15 million from Wal-Mart to jump-start the effort.

As part of this commitment, Wal-Mart will establish mini-Wal-Mart stores

in areas impacted by the hurricane. Items such as clothing, diapers, baby

wipes, food, formula, toothbrushes, bedding and water will be given out free

of charge to those with a demonstrated need.

Wal-Mart previously donated $2 million in cash to aid emergency relief

efforts and has been collecting contributions at its 3,800 stores and CLUBS,

and through its web sites [www.walmartfacts.com, http://www.walmart.com,

http://www.walmartfoundation.org, http://www.walmartstores.com, http://www.samsclub.com].

Through its Associate Disaster Relief Fund, the company will also give

displaced associates immediate funds for shelter, food, clothing and other

necessities.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. operates Wal-Mart Stores, Supercenters, Neighborhood

Markets and SAM'S CLUBS in all fifty states. Internationally, the company

operates in Puerto Rico, Canada, China, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, United

Kingdom, Argentina and South Korea. The company's securities are listed on
