Posted September 6, 200519 yr The post on Buster Olney's blog today was mainly about where he thinks teams stand in the two wild card races, here are his thoughts on the Fish (with a disturbing link added in): Better wake up quickly: The Florida Marlins and Oakland Athletics have the pitching to win the whole thing if they make the playoffs, but they're losing ground. A.J. Burnett lost again on Sunday and Florida fell to Livan Hernandez Monday. Suddenly the Marlins are a game out, at a time when it looks like they might be without one of their most important position players for the foreseeable future. Every game Florida plays through the end of the season is against a contender, and only nine of their final 25 games are at home. They just have to start playing better if they want to be part of the scene in October. link--Insider required The assessment is right there but the added news from the PBP about Sea Bass is definitely troubling.
September 6, 200519 yr Couldn't have said it better. Hopefully Andino gets a start today because he's closer to Alex than Easley. At this stage, I say go with youth if you can, try to get some excitement in there.
September 6, 200519 yr give it heart guys, maybe somehow he will get back soon and be healthy finally. On the otherside wilson and andino might be good for us. They are battling it out for a chance for next year. Perhaps it will push them both and ignite the team.
September 6, 200519 yr Serious question: Is Alex really one of our most important positional players? I mean, after Mike Lowell, Gonzalez really could be the most disappointing offensive player we've had this year. He was relied on for a substantial portion of our teams power...going into the year, we expected him and Lowell to combine for 50-60 HR's, now we'll be lucky to have them combine for 15. IMO, we've been "without" Alex for sometime...this may actually be a weird blessing in disguise if we can catch fire with Easley (more offense) or Andino (more speed).
September 6, 200519 yr WE'll miss him on defense, but it's not like his bat has been huge. I tend to agree with Tswift on this, because from a HR perspective, we expected a lot more.
September 6, 200519 yr We need a good slap in the face 932194[/snapback] true. In 2003, they got slapped in the face in that Boston Red Sox series and started playing with a swagger after that.

IMO, it's going to be a youth (Hermida, Andino, Wilson) movement that'll carry us this year. It helps that they don't have rings yet (unlike the rest of the lineup)...
September 7, 200519 yr As much as this offense needs to get going, Beckett and Burnett MUST get back on track and soon. These two, along with Willis, is what is going to get us into the playoffs and if our two best pitchers aren't at the top of their game, do you really fully trust Vargas and Ish to pick up the slack? I don't know what its going to take, but these guys need to find it fast.
