September 28, 200521 yr I dont know why people dont think Aguila can get the job done in CF, but almost demand that Willingham be the starting LF next season I don't know if it's CF or one of the corner outfield positions but for me there's little question that Aguila can play MLB outfield and contribute offensively, and is further ahead of both Hermida and Willingham. He gets a good jump on the ball, has a strong arm and a solid stroke which led to tremendous minor league numbers. If you believe Willingham and Hermida's ML numbers are an indication of what kind of player they could mature into at the MLB level, the same could be said of Aguila, who has also had the benefit of being on a MLB roster almost alll season. Assuming there's at least one OF position up for grabs (RF, maybe LF as well) in the 2006 it will be interesting to see how the three do in head to head competition. Barring injury I'd bet on Aguila.
September 28, 200521 yr Why is there a knock on speed? Has everyone gotten so brainwashed into thinking that HR hitters are the only guys with value, that a player like JP is considered worthless? Wow, I guess none of you saw what Whitey Herzog did with the Cardinals in the 1980s.

September 28, 200521 yr And theres a reason he is a 27 year old minor leaguer....he has no business starting for us. They're called graduating from college, injuries and a tough position change to suit another player (Cabrera). It's not like he had to repeat a level or two because he couldn't hit. Wow, I guess none of you saw what Whitey Herzog did with the Cardinals in the 1980s. There isn't. Not one bit. There's a knock on speedsters who can't get on base at a decent clip, steal effeciently and/or read the ball off the bat. Sure home run hitters have their own problems, strikeouts for example, but they make up more with their power than others do with their speed.
