Maybe Stokes is wishful thinking, but Olsen is not. He is the top prospect in our organization, he might be a tad skinny leading to stamina problems, you could be right...but adding a few pound of muscle and doing exercies to increase that stamina would be no problem at all. He is 6'4, 198, not exactly a string bean. I'd say 215-220 he would be fine, plus he is just 21(22 in a few months). I really just dont get what your insistence is in placing our #1 PROSPECT(not just pitching prospect) into every trade proposal you make. It really is like you just hate the guy.

As for the Sheff/Pierre trade, the Yanks are desperate for a player like Pierre, a capable(young) centerfielder thats a leadoff man, they would almost have to take part of his salary if they want him.

Back to Stokes...I just really want Adam Everett on this team. It would be a surefire fill for our SS canundrum that we have going into this offseason, and if we offer the Astros Stokes and another prospect I think they would bite. Yet another cheap alternative, if it comes to show that Andino is ready sooner than thought trade Everett, if Andino is never proven ready keep the guy.

Hermida's the #1 prospect, not Olsen. Heck, Vargas and Johnson may be better prospects. There's no argument that Olsen has better stuff, but Beinfest has tried trading Olsen before because there is a concern about his durability and his mental makeup.

SHEFFIELD FOR PIERRE IS ALREADY LOPSIDED. Clear yet? The Yankees are already giving up a guy who hits .300 and 30 homeruns in a down season, Pierre's coming off a bad year, while Sheffield'll probably be in the top ten in the AL MVP vote. The only reason Sheff's name is being thrown around is that he's the most tradeable piece and he can give them payroll flexibility to reshape their bullpen with Ryan and maybe Wagner, meaning they're not going to pay a team to take him. Sheffield's going to be used to drastically reshape the team both through what he brings them in trade and through the money freed up by dumping him.

I wouldn't call the guy that's got a guranteed spot in the starting lineup next season a prospect. I like Johnson, I like Vargas, I wanted Johnson to get called up for a spot start earlier this season as a matter of fact. Dont be suprised if we have 3 lefties in the starting rotation next season, with one being Olsen and Johnson also being there, since more money will be focused on building a solid bullpen and finding capable replacements. Also, if the Sheff/Pierre trade happens(I dont doubt it will be proposed), finding money to put into that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you doing that with Olsen? Baseball America did that with Joe Mauer two seasons ago as well. Nice try though.

Well, Hermida is popularly thought to have a guranteed starting spot, I am the only one(well, maybe a few others), that are saying the same about Olsen.

And, just to point out, I have no problem with you TSwift, I honestly dont get why you want Olsen out of our organization so bad. It seems not like you think of him as trade bait, but that you honestly want him shipped out. I really just dont get it.

I think everyone and then some are saying that right now the rotation is Beckett, Willis, Vargas, Olsen and Johnson, and that barring a trade or a signing, the only person in jeopardy is Johnson, not Olsen or Vargas.

I don't want him out of the organization, I just want changes to happen because this club is stale, to be honest. To get something substantive via trade (since the F.A. market is both thin, and likely over-priced) we're going to have to give up something...you know, the good old "you have to give something to get something." The fact that Willis and Vargas seemingly have strangle-holds on their spots means that, for better or worse, Olsen is likely the odd man out. If the Twins (under my scenario) said, "we want Vargas, not Olsen," I'd say fine, but the fact of the matter is that the strikeout is a sexy stat when looking at a young pitcher, meaning Olsen has more value to other teams almost to the point that they're going to over value him.

I like Olsen, but I like winning more, and I think that Olsen helps us win in '06 more by being part of a trade for a huge impact player more than being the #4 in the rotation, but that doesn't mean I want to give him away. Heck, I'd trade Vargas before I trade Olsen, but I don't think any team is going to value Vargas over Olsen...

There should only be four untouchables: Beckett, Willis, Cabrera, Hermida...after that, you have to be at least willing to listen.

The trade market will probably be thin. Outside of Gary Sheffield, I dont know too many players that we could add via trade that would be worth dealing Olsen. And I dont think Sheff is there either, give the Yanks and two of our lesser pitching prospects. The exciting thing about Olsen is: a left handed K artist. You dont see many of them, the likely situation with him following Beckett in the rotation is it is a nightmare: a right handed K guy one day, a left handed one the next.

Good post and I agree with your beliefs upon olsen.

Look he is our top major league ready pitching prospect. But, unless he is going into long relief I doubt he will be allowed to start next year. Barring an injury of course. But if we did trade him off, we would still have johnson to call up from the minors to spot start as well.

As for the article originally I saw it posted and was like wtf..

Personally I think we could move lowell/pierre/olsen for sheffield and pavano and cash perhaps. Would this truly benefit us though?

Yup, exactly. I agree. I know people like the fact that Olsen K's a lot people, but it's more important to get people out and not let people score. Willis isn't a "K machine," yet he is our best pitcher and might win the Cy Young. So what if AJ is a "K machine"? Do we like him better than Dontrelle? Hell no.

Being off from school and back at home in the NY burbs, I always get a laugh when I open up the Post or turn on WFAN. Yankee fans always forget that money is an issue with most trading partners, whereas Mets fans turn Heilman and Jae Seo into Beckett and Willis.

That said, if there was any time to trade Delgado and Lo Duca, it would be now. Unfortunately, it would leave a hole in the lineup without a lefty slugger (Hermida isn't in that class yet) and a reputable catcher. It's hard to name more than ten or fifteen catchers that you can count on for much of anything. I'll drop another message if Mike & the Mad Dog talk about this article at all (you can catch it on YES if you have satellite).
