Posted October 18, 200519 yr MIAMI -- As a precaution, Josh Beckett had his tired right shoulder examined recently by orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. After reviewing two MRI exams on the shoulder, Andrews has given Beckett the green light to resume baseball activities. The Marlins right-hander felt discomfort in his shoulder the last few weeks of the season, yet he still pitched, finishing at 15-8 with a 3.37 ERA. Beckett had a personal high for starts (29) and innings pitched (178 2/3). When the Marlins were officially eliminated from playoff contention in the final week of the season, Beckett skipped one last scheduled start to rest his shoulder. On Oct. 4, two days after the season finale, he traveled to Birmingham, Ala., to be examined by Andrews. An initial MRI result was inconclusive so a second MRI was taken Oct. 12. Satisfied with the result, Andrews cleared Beckett to do his normal offseason workouts. "Everything is fine," Beckett said Tuesday from his ranch in Texas. "When I got back home, my arm felt better and better by the day." The tests were to see if anything was frayed in the shoulder or if there was any damage to the labrum. To better monitor the strength of his throwing arm, Beckett plans on having tests taken every offseason to compare how his shoulder is progressing on a year-to-year basis. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...t=.jsp&c_id=fla
October 18, 200519 yr He won 15 this year, so 20 isn't out of the question. He would have probably had 20 wins if the bullpen didn't blow so many of his games.

October 19, 200519 yr Good news. This is a relief. Josh threw more innings this year than any previous, so he just needed a little R&R. Hopefully he'll come back stronger next season.

And let us not forget that he missed a few games due to injuries. He could have easily gotten 2 or 3 more wins added to that total. I think just like this was the year for Dontrelle, next year will be the year for Josh.

The most frustrating thing this year was the fact that the Marlins never seemed to get key hits when needed to score runs! You can blame the BP all you want but you can't win games if you don't score runs NO MATTER how the BP or starters pitch.
