Could the Dodgers be after Admin Beinfest badly enough to take Lowell or Pierre off our payroll?

Lowell costs $8 million per year... he's worth more like $4 million. So they would be paying $4 million for Beinfest plus his salary. I would say probably not.

And get what? Pierre and Lowell for JD Drew?

No to D.L. Drew.....but the Dodgers have other players and prospects.

I don't really think the Dodgers want Beinfest, if they did, we'd have heard his name out of the rumor mill before Hersheiser...

BTW, Theo seems to be staying away from the Dodgers.

Beinfest didn't win a World Series with the Dodgers....Hersh should have been in the rumors.

I was being smartass when I talked about JD Drew. If they want to trade us Penny back though I wouldn't argue.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News and the Palm Beach Post, the Dodgers may be interested in hiring Beinfest for their GM position. Beinfest, who grew up in the LA area, helped shape the Marlins' 2003 World Series team. He might be among the candidates to replace Paul DePodesta.

FROM MLB.COM

Beinfest is the one who expressed interest in the Dodgers....being that he is from Southern California. The Dodgers have not reciprocated. In fact the Dodgers have asked the Texas Rangers permission to interview John Hart.

Marlins GM shows interest in Dodgers

By Tony Jackson, Staff Writer

LOS ANGELES - The man on the other end of the most controversial trade Paul DePodesta made in his two seasons as general manager of the Dodgers might be the man who ultimately replaces DePodesta.

Two sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Florida GM Admin Beinfest, who on July 30, 2004, sent Brad Penny, Hee-Seop Choi and a minor leaguer to the Dodgers for Paul Lo Duca, Guillermo Mota and Juan Encarnacion, has a strong interest in the job. A former All- City shortstop at Chatsworth High School, Beinfest still spends much of his offseasons in Southern California.

The only question now is whether the Dodgers are interested in him. The club issued a statement Wednesday that shed no light on its ongoing search for a GM.

"There are a number of highly qualified candidates for the general manager's position and no shortage of people who have expressed interest," the statement read. "Although this remains a confidential process, we are making considerable progress."

At first glance, though, Beinfest would seem tailor-made to what Dodgers officials need. He is young (41), he apparently wants the job badly enough that he probably would take it at less than a bank-breaking salary, and he has a proven, successful track record.

WTF, now Beinfest is tripping on us...

Whatever, if we can have Penny back I'd hit it.

It's understandable it's near home and the Dodgers are in a better financial situation than the Marlins will ever be.

Can you actually package GMs with players?

Sure, Piniella was "traded" from Seattle for Randy Winn, but the Mariners had to send a non-prospect to complete the deal in the eyes of MLB.

In this case, the Dodgers would simply send a warm body in return for all of Lowell's deal.

It's one reason the Dodgers won't seriously consider Beinfest. John Hart would be less costly.

Would I take a fireballer that helped us win the 03 world series over a player with limitless potential, yet is injury prone and has had exaclty one good consistent season? You betcha. I'd want Milton Bradley too.
