"Our lack of support forces Marlins' hand"

Featured Replies

I agree 100%. If this team isn't in the WS every year, nobody will coming out and fully support this team. Its absolutely pathetic that this team cannot even get a stadium built after all of these years and goes a long way to proving that South Florida is a bush league town.

I never thought I would say it, but I agree with Le Retard.

Here are the final words I heard on the last day of the season from a stadium (read, Huizenga) employee...

I say, walking through the gates for the final time, "See you next year".

The response, "Not unless we both move to Vegas". Senior, white collar stadium corporate bigwig.

It's like Huizenga hates the Marlins and wants to see them fail. I don't know why Crater Face gave up on the Marlins in the first place. He engaged in some questionable accounting practices to show that he was losing money when, in fact, the Marlins were a profitable enterprise. Maybe he got a rush out of gutting and destroying the team. He felt powerful. He could turn an expansion team into World Series champions and then a losing franchise all within a five year time period.

AND FUTBOLLLL!!!!

I just hope that Loria come out and put the cards on the table. I don't care about most people down here that don't care about this team. But the people emotionally involved with this team, and those who are willing to root for this team through the though times deserves an answer.

If your intentions is to get a stadium or move, just say it.

Show what long term plan you have for this franchise.

Rferry has it right.

And as long as Loria doesn't start telling his side of the story, of how stadium negotiations really went with Joe "I know who my friends are" Arriola, then this franchise is safe.

He loses his leverage in negotiations by making his intentions public.

I believe, at this point the Marlins have zero leverage.

The stadium is not a political issue (I was dead wrong in believing it was). The small fan base couldn't force the politicos hand, and most people don't care. The politicos wanted 'Performing Arts Part II', but the Marlins refused to pay for it. A Marlins stadium in the City of Miami is history.

If the Marlins move, people down here will bitch and moan but it would be too late.

I'm afraid you are 100% correct. Loria has agreed to pay for cost overruns. But to keep costs under control the Marlins were going to select and manage all contracts. Could this have been a sticking point with the politicos?
