December 4, 200520 yr Byrd's agreement with Indians worth $14.25 million ESPN.com news services DALLAS -- Free-agent right-hander Paul Byrd and the Cleveland Indians reached agreement Sunday on a two-year contract worth $14.25 million. The deal includes a club option for a third season. Byrd can earn as much as $22 million if the Indians exercise his option for the 2008 season. If Cleveland declines it, the 35-year-old Byrd will receive a $250,000 buyout, a sum that is included in his guarantee. Byrd was 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA in 31 starts for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last season. He is entering his 12th season and embarking on his ninth tour -- he's made more than one stop with the Braves, Phillies and Royals. He was 8-7 with Atlanta in 2004, having missed the 2003 season because of elbow surgery. Byrd made $4.5 million in his one season as an Angel. :lol 7 million per. Best off-season ever.

December 5, 200520 yr Author Is Millwood moving on? Yep. Cleveland offered 3 years, he wants 5. They're hesitant to even go 4, no way they'll go 5. Byrd will do fine with that offense behind him. If he puts up a 3.74 ERA this season, there's no way he's going 12-11. I think the Indians would be stupid to give Millwood 5 years. This Byrd deal is dumb, but it's thanks to the market. I mean, he's better than Loaiza. I doubt they'll pick up that option, so it's only 2 years. I would imagine the option is just a safety net in case some of their young arms (Carmona, Brown, Miller, etc) don't develop. I would guess they're going to sign another SP shortly. Rotation looks like: Sabathia Lee Byrd Westbrook ? The key is Sabathia, the guy should be one of the more dominant starters in the American League. If he ever finally puts it all together, he's going to have a monster season.
