Damion is about to be gone

It's a done deal:

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks today announced they have signed free agent infielder Damion Easley to a one-year contract. Consistent with team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Easley, 36, appeared in 102 games for the Florida Marlins last season, posting a .240 batting average with 9 home runs and 30 RBI. His season ended on September 16 after he suffered a severe right ankle sprain.

Easley is a lifetime .251 hitter in a career that has spanned 14 seasons, totaling 1,427 career games with 138 home runs, 586 RBI and 113 stolen bases. Originally drafted by the then-California Angels in the 30th round of the 1988 June draft, he made his Major League debut in 1992 and played parts of five seasons for the Angels. He was traded to Detroit in July 1996 and fashioned consecutive 20-homer seasons from 1997-99.

Easley was named to his first All-Star team in 1998, when he established career bests in hits (161), doubles (38), home runs (27) and RBI (100). Over the last three years, he played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2003) and the Florida Marlins (2004-2005).

During his career, Easley has played all four infield positions and has limited experience in the outfield. Last season, he appeared in 46 games at second base, 30 games at shortstop and another 10 games at third base. His .984 career fielding percentage as a second baseman ranks second among active big leaguers (min. 1,000 games at the position). Damion, his wife, Dawn, and children Rocky, Jazmin, Nathaniel and Jayce make their home in Glendale, Ariz.

Sounds like a real nice fit for Damion. I wish him success and thank him for his contributions the past two years.

I've heard D'Angelo Jimenez has some attitude problems.. but he could fill the void at 2B and leadoff spot rather cheap.. his last full season in '04, he went .270 with a .364 OBP and 12 dongs.

D'Lo wasn't bad at all for us. He struggled last year, and add that to him not fitting in real well in the clubhouse, and that led to his demize.; He could make a good leadoff hitter for you guys.

I'll remember him for that line drive blast down the left field line to win the game against Cleveland in 2004. Just a regular season interleague game, but it was still awesome.

I will not however, miss the errors on routine balls.
