December 23, 200520 yr After coming Out of the Blue to fly my first time on JetBlue #556 from Fort Myers to Newark, I discovered how nice it is to go a gazillion miles in less than 3 hours. The flight was smooth, on-time, and had DirecTV. (Southwest Florida Int'l Airport had XM Radio playing, but JetBlue still hadn't installed it.) I drank my tea and eat my Chocolate Chunk Cookie. The planes are Airbus A320's which in a word are VERY COOL! Everyone sits in the same class with leather seats, free personal DirecTV service, and coming soon will be XM in seat. I arrived in Newark to be rushed down south to Somerset by my cousins so I can get sleepypoo. I awake Monday morning and discover shopping in the Northeast. Malls up there are big....but i miss the skylights we have down south. The airports, malls, and large lobbies are darker than night sometimes. We also visit New Brunswick (Rutgers) and Princeton (Do I need to tell you the school here?) to view the Christmas displays and we eat Indian food for dinner. (Not Native American!) Tuesday was an off-day. My cousins had to work and we babysat my youngest cousin. We also wondered how cold it would get before the glass would frost. That night came dinner at a Cuban restaurant in Middlesex and a reunion of some other cousins whom my dad had not seen in over 20 years. Wednesday was my big day. Capeypoo was shown the way to the train station. We drove to Plainfield, picked up my aunt, and went to the MetroPark NJ Transit station in Edison. It was time to board the train for New York. The ride was nice and smooth and we made our way north to the City. As we went under the Hudson, I felt my ears pop and it was annoying, but bearable. We came out at New York Pennsylvania station right below Madison Square Garden (32nd St. and 7 Ave.) We went to see the Matinee of Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre right off Broadway on 44th Street and it was near Spam-a-lot and the Producers. The Phantom of the Opera was excellent! The players were excellent singers and the special effects were amazing as the Theatre was flamed, fogged, and witnessed the falling of the great Chandelier. After the show, we go up to 50th and eat at Ellen's Stardust Diner. The Diner is staffed by future Broadway actors and they perform songs from plays and movies live and in front of you. The food is good and the location is next to Mama Mia. The Miss Subways get creepy after a while though. Finally we made it to Rockefeller Center and walked the plaza. We saw the ice rink and the Christmas Tree. We made it up further to some window displays and St. Patrick's Cathedral before making the trek down past the Empire State building to 32nd St. and into Penn Station. MSG had an event so it was crowded, but not unbearably crowded. Thursday was bye-bye day. We said bye-bye, got on Idlewild Blue (JetBlue 555 from Newark to Fort Myers) and flew the 2 hours and some back home. I saw my town from the air (even my house on our street...very scary) and had an easy landing at the new Airport. On the way home, we heard of the end of the Transit Strike in NYC. That was my trip to the Big Apple....Admin, you disappoint me. :shifty
December 23, 200520 yr Very cool. Glad you got to see a play--those are uber cool. I saw The Producers (and the theater with 'Opera'). It's a fantastic area, isn't it?
December 23, 200520 yr Author Very cool. Glad you got to see a play--those are uber cool. I saw The Producers (and the theater with 'Opera'). It's a fantastic area, isn't it? It is. Miami needs the Theatres to come back. I love watching plays, but Dade County had poor playhouses...that will change. BTW, GO JETBLUE!
December 23, 200520 yr I have seen tons of plays. Ft Lauderdale Theater of Performing Arts does a great job, IMO. I used to go to Parker Playhouse once in a while :lol Mama Mia Fiddler on the Roof Music Man The Producers Beauty and the Beast The Phantom (no not that one) The Nutcracker Just a few of the plays I've seen. I definitely want to catch Phantom of the Opera. They were in town a couple months ago but I missed it Mama Mia might be the most underrated play IMO. Gotta love ABBA!
December 23, 200520 yr Author I would love to see Mamma Mia...it is on my list. The Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers had it and Phantom of the Opera not too long ago and I hope the Broadway shows keep on coming. http://www.bbmannpah.com/Mamma_Mia.php
