January 17, 200620 yr That's a whole lot of money for a player with three years in the bigs, let alone a super-two. Wow. I'm glad they were able to avoid arbitration Well, how many super-two's have 47 big league wins and a lifetime ERA of 3.27?

January 17, 200620 yr If there was going to be any big spending this offseason its great to see the right guy get it. Congrats Dontrelle , you more than deserve it

There's a huge difference between the free-agent market and arbitration negotiations, especially for a first year arbitration case.
January 17, 200620 yr That's good, but what happened to us signing him to a long-term deal? Maybe Dontrelle doesn't like Las Vegas. LOL Yeah...The Don is a big NBA fan....how's he gonna be courtside if the Marlins are in Vegas? The Don got what he deserved, a nice healthy one year gig. He's the most exciting player in baseball and the FO isnt gonna let him go anywhere anytime soon. I can honestly say...No other professional athlete in my lifetime has been as fun and enjoyable to watch than Dontrelle. Word to your mother. :mischief2
January 17, 200620 yr I think the Marlins thought the arbitrator would have awarded more than 4.35, that's why they signed for this price. And I agree. The arbitrator probably would have given closer to 5. And if Willis strings together 3 more seasons like the last one(a big if), then he'll get 7,9, and 11. I'm happy he'll be on the team this year. I would have preferred if they signed him to a 2/10M contract, so we'd know they want him around for at least 2 years.

Is not about winning or losing in arbitration, is about keeping a good and open relationship with Dontrelle. Hopefully we can lock him up long term, once the future of this franchise is clear (hopefuly by next year)
January 18, 200620 yr The D-Train was interviewed on XM Radio, The Show, this afternoon. He said he was completely prepared to go through arbitration. He wasn't concerned about the team making negative comments about him, because in his own words he is his worst critic and has probably already criticized himself 10 times worse than the team could have. He understood arbitration was the business side of the game and regardless of what might have been said would be ready to shake hands and get going when pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 15. He also is quite excited about the opportunity to pitch in the World Baseball Classic. According to Dontrelle there is no greater honor than practicing your trade for your country. He has been working out for weeks and is already up to 3 bullpens a week. So he'll be completely ready by the time the WBC comes around.
