SI Mock draft

Featured Replies

i mean if not trades are made that effect the Dolphins selection I would have no problem with them at all selecting Winston Justice...he is if not the top-rated OT, one of them and would lock up Miami's line, which still needs some improvement

I'll do backflips is we draft an offensive lineman, especially a guy like McNeil.

6'9", 340.

If things go according to this mock draft and we pass on Bobby Carpenter, there will be riots in the streets of Cincinnati.

A Quiet Riot?

I wouldn't mind taking Winston Justice if Cutler is off the board. He has a ton of upside and could have as much upside as D'Brickshaw Ferguson but is more raw. He would also be the 2nd member of the Cal Poly HS team on the fins from the 02' class along with Manny Wright. I also would keep an eye on Antonio Cromartie's stock and possibly trade down for him if he runs well at the combine. Supposedly his knee is close to 100% and he will run in the low 4.4s at the combine. He was a pre-season top 5 pick before the injury and with his size/speed combo he could be a great CB for years and a draft day steal.

Cromatie is interesting, there was an interview where he claimed he would run a 4.2 at the combine. If he does with his hip ability to swivel and his size? That would be amazing to see.

My question on justice do you all think he can become a Left Tackle? His college career has been a right tackle all along because Matt Leinart is a Left handed QB. Now that is partly because matt's blind side is his right handed size. But it is a very different position overall in movements and technique. I think Houck could teach the kid and all but I think he would be a work in progress for a year or two at least.

Here is the guys I have been looking upon:

Manny Lawson OLB NCS

Bobby Carpenter OLB Ohio State

Antonio Cromartie CB FSU

Jay Cutler QB Vandy (I think he will be gone)

possibles

Jon scott LT Texas - he had a good senior bowl but has the knock of being inconsistent

winston justice RT USC - can he be a left tackle

chad greenway - Can he play the 3-4 OLB? If so I would love him

ko simpson S SC- could be there and interesting but only 2 years playing time

those of the main ones I see there with us. I personally wanna trade back and get more picks if we can.

To the questions you posed:

1. No way Lawson is worth the 16th pick, that is just way too high for his stock. I think he would be a great assest and one of the top 2 or 3 players that would fit our system at any position. He would be a monster OLB for us who could rush the passer ala a Joey Porter or Pitt. I wouldn't mind trading down for him at the end of round 1 or even trading up for him in round 2. He is a phenomonal athlete and one of my favorite players in the draft.

2. Bobby Carpenter is another guy who is too early to take at #16. When I see him play, I see a true football player. He has a great size/speed ratio and can play inside or out as well as blitz but for us, I would rather take a Manny Lawson if we were going to trade down and go LB in round 1.

3. Cromartie is an absolute beast. I would expect him to run in the 4.4 range at the combine and improve his stock. His stock is something to really watch because it could rocket up still and 16 might not be a stretch, although at this point it would be. I would love to have him.

4. I would have to say Justice could absolutely play LT. As you said, he played RT at SC which for them is the same as LT basically because Leinart is a left. He is an absolute athlete at OT and has very swift and graceful feet. I think he has the most upside of any OT in this draft and would be a great addition for us.

5. Cutler we all know.

6. Jon Scott no thanks in round 1, but if he lasts till we pick in round 2 and we did not go OT with our first pick, I would be happy. He is a big guy but seems lazy and never developed consistency. He would be too big of a reach and risk for round 1 since we seem to have too many OT like him already, especially Vernon Carey.

7. Greenway would be a solid pick. He seems like a real team guy and a leader. He has pretty good measurables too. Good size for an OLB and could fit in well in a 3-4 scheme. However, I would prefer to trade down and get extra picks and take Lawson.

8. Ko Simpson as you said only played 2 years but is already 23. He has good size and speed and is a true talent but I have him as my 3rd best saftey behind Michael Huff and Darnell Bing, although he will most likely be drafted ahead of Bing. I would not want to take him at 16 and obviously would rather acquire more picks and trade down to get Bing who 6'2'', 220 has great size and at 4.55+ has some speed to go along with the size. Bing is also a big time playmaker who reminds me some of Ed Reed and who can also deliver a knock out hit.

"During recent workouts, Cromartie ran a 4.41 40-time on grass and a 4.37 on a track. Even more impressive is that he posted a 43" jump in the vertical. If he can post numbers like this in Indianapolis, and if he knee gets the okay from the NFL doctors, you can bet is draft stock will go through the roof." Warchant.com 02/21/06

If he does that at the combine he is a top 10 pick and Might go ahead of huff and williams.

A 6'3" champ bailey is a scary thing out there on the corner.

Even if he does that at the combine, which is a real possibility from everything I have heard and read, he won't go top 10 because he has not played in a year and even when he was healthy, he had limited startng experience. 16 could be a possibility though. :thumbup

that would be nice to see him hold to about there. I did a mock recently where I had us trade back and pluck him up at the end of the 1st. (Deangelo still on the board and Indy traded up for him) just for fun and all for stuff to consider.

But my hope is trade back and get lawson/Cromartie/carpenter. I really am starting to like carpenter more and more, hope he can be as good as I have read.

I would wet myself if we got Antonio Cromartie.
