March 4, 200620 yr What is the HUGE difference about ONE ounce? On my school's team, my coach will only let me use a 32/29 bat, but I have a good enough arm strength to swing a 33/30 good.. Whats the difference?
March 4, 200620 yr Well he may be doing that because of what he thinks your height is best suited for or some type of regulations for the league you are in. Consider your height and what kindof hitter he is going to have you be (swinging for power, or a quicker swing). But one ounce doesn't make that big of a difference but I'm thinking it may have something to do with your height/weight and or rules.

Well Im not sure what the rules are, but I'm 5' 2.5'' and 105 LBS, so would that be something?

March 4, 200620 yr It has to do with bat speed. Bat speed is where you get your power.....not a heavier bat. So I bet your coach is just trying to help you out. I've coached baseball a long time myself and always tried to get my players to use lighter bats too.

You will not be able to handle a bat heavier than that.

No, it's not about the power, I just know I can swing a 30 ounce bat, because I went to the batting cages today and hit or made contact with about 160 of 200 (4/5). And I still don't get why 1 ounce makes so much difference.
