Begin nominations for any movie you think are necessary for someone to watch before they die. Feel free to nominate as many as you want within this specific genre. You may also repeat names that have already been mentioned. Discussion is also permitted.

Planet of the Apes (Heston style, but only the first!)

War of the Worlds (Cruise style)

Independence Day (yessuh!)

Star Wars...

I'll let other people join in on the fun, but I have tons more.

Blade Runner

I never really got into Blade Runner. It seemed REALLY overhyped to me. I liked the novel a lot better than the movie.

All have been mention, but the Star Wars Saga, Lord of the Rings Triology, and Serenity. My ten favorite movies of all time right there.

I sorta group Sci-Fi/Fantasy sort of stuff into the same category. But the LOTR triology is a must see no matter what genre it is.

Equilibrium.

The Lord of the Rings movies aren't Sci-Fi.

Sci Fi is generally grouped with Fantasy.

LotR shouldn't be in Sci-Fi, it's clearly a Fantasy movie.

Do you see a Fantasy thread?

The Day the Earth Stood Still

First thing that popped into my mind. I saw it as a kid and I still remember it's message.

Talk first - then kill the bastards.

For the purposes of this list, Sci Fi and Fantasy are synonymous.

That's it for nominations. Stage 2 of this process will begin sometime shortly.
