Posted March 28, 200618 yr I'm sure a lot of you have heard about the legislation/debates regarding illegal immigration. I'm following it closely (I know many people), and I hope they rule in favor of giving illegal immigrants citizenship after the 'fine' and work experience. Thoughts?
March 28, 200618 yr send them all back!!!! (or just send some of my relatives back and then cut it off, i got a list made out and everything.)

March 28, 200618 yr I am glad that finally the media is taking notice of problem. They have to start doing something. The issue is getting out of hand. They should start sending some of them back.
March 28, 200618 yr Author I am glad that finally the media is taking notice of problem. They have to start doing something. The issue is getting out of hand. They should start sending some of them back. Well I definitely have the opposite sentiments. I'd like to hear your reasoning for this. Illegal immigrants take the jobs that most people normally wouldn't want...They are a vital asset to our economy, and I think that 500,000 person protest in California is a great example. Do you know any illegal immigrants? I feel that when you personalize yourself with the issue, it's easier to make the 'right' decision....the humane and moral decision.

I agree with you 100%. I am doing an immigration internship that helps illegal immigrants gain legal status (if possible). People will keep coming because... (gasp) there are millions of jobs Americans won't do! Oh, so it's a question of supply and demand - simple economics. We need workers and they need jobs. Great match. :thumbup
March 28, 200618 yr Illegal immigrants take the jobs that most people normally wouldn't want... Like what? What jobs are there being done in California that aren't being done in Connecticut? Or Maine? You know there are states without Mexican immigrants, or really any immigrants and they survive quite well. What immigrants are willing to do is work off the books for below minimum wage. It is an issue of making the rich not have to pay as much. Immigrants would be replaced in the job force.

You ask what jobs are being done in California (and Florida) that aren't being done in Maine. Well, how about picking fruits? And go to any restaurant in most cities and the people working in the kitchen are mostly illegal aliens. Get real.

That's what it is all about. Keep putting the money back into the corporations pockets, they love you for it.

I got no problem with them coming here. Hell every immigrant that wants to be here can be if they want to for all I care but do it LEGALLY. Come here legally then these corporations can't low ball them on their pay because then these people won't want to be paid off of the books. We are a nations of laws should we just start ignoring some because there are people protesting?

Most of the people coming here are poor, without work and desperate to escape their past. If the 'laws' were more managable for aliens to gain legalization, then we wouldn't have this issue. It's not a case of foreigners wanting to skip taxes or get a free ride in the US. And what about children of immigrants who didn't havea choice? They came here before they were 18, and now they are up shits creek without a paddle?

Ok, but all the food you eat will be a lot more expensive, restaurants will be more expensive... everything will be more expensive. The increased cost in labor will mostly be passed on to you, the consumer. If you're cool with that, then that's your thing.

How about we outsource them some jobs there in Mexico, would you like that? I mean that will give them places to work, help put money in their pockets. Life isn't fair. It's true some people get the short stick. I am thankful every day I was born here. Mexico is not a paradise, but there is worse and people have lived in worse conditions before. There are legal ways into the country. They may not be perfect but it is a way in. Illegal immigrants take money out of honest Americans' pockets and that is not right.

March 29, 200618 yr Wow, I was willing to accept your opinions but it's clear that you are an a**hole. Yeah I know worrying about America's own poor is a bad thing. Let's worry about the poor people in other countries first.
March 29, 200618 yr food is price inelastic, meaning that the consumers can impact the price of foods very little. everyone needs to eat. there is only so much you can do. sorry bub. you'll pay whatever they charge cause you don't want to starve. thumbup.gif Wow, I was willing to accept your opinions but it's clear that you are an a**hole. Yeah I know worrying about America's own poor is a bad thing. Let's worry about the poor people in other countries first. sorry dude, this is an economic issue. you may not like it, but illegal immigration is driven by economic demand. nothing you can do to change that. sorry.

There are poor people with US Citizenship who are doing nothing with their lives...While there are thousands, millions or immigrants here that work their asses off and could only dream to be citizens. If we would pay whatever they want why aren't they fleecing us already? And still, you really think there are enough illegal immigrants in each state that it would effect every state? It is a handful of states we are talking about, and the shocking thing is there is production done in other states. Let alone the stuff we ship in for other countries and everything. American companies want to start charging $10 for bread? Yeah guess what we do have trade partners that do offer cheaper goods then, and the companies know this. The price raise you think will happen is way way over estimated. I'd hate to tell you but the work force is not run by illegal immigrants, so if they left it would not collapse on itself. 2.) No it's a political issue. If there were no illegal immigrants all these corporations that underpay here in America will not fold up and leave. They will find other workers to pay what the work cost to do, helping maybe even lower that unemployment number.

There are millions of bums in this country who are citizens and would prefer to be on welfare than work for 6 bucks an our. They would be unemployed one way or the other. Instead, the jobs go to hard working immigrants who are in search of the American Dream - a job, a house, a car. Let businesses hire the best workers and stay out of their business. Your point=invalid. Yup every single poor person in America with no job or a minimum wage job is because it is their fault. Let's deport all unproductive people, even rich people who do nothing but sit on their money I mean they are unproductive, right? Give me a break. Guess what there are also poor people in Africa who would kill for jobs here too. Wanna rent a plane, fly some over? Not to mention all the other S. American countries as well. Why just give special treatment to Mexican illegals? If you're illegal you are illegal period.

Say the bums on welfare still decide they like welfare better. These jobs that illegals are taking are going to have to offer better money and benefits to their workers. At some point welfare is going to be at the bottom-rung, not working in the beanfield. I really think this would help with the further polarization of the American class system.

How about we legalize all the illegal aliens already here who have been working hard and stayed out of trouble. Then, allow anyone that wants to come to this country to work to come into the country for thirty days to find a job. If they find a job, let them stay. If not, they have to go back. They can come back in for another thirty days a few months later. Then penalize employers severely for hiring illegal immigrants (presumably the only illegal immigrants will be the ones that can't find a job in thirty days... which is to say, none... they'll find a job within a day or two... they're hard workers and don't make any damn excuses like all those welfare bums). Enforce the minimum wage, the benefits for workers, all the protections already in place. How does that sound?
March 29, 200618 yr yep - first and foremost it's an illegal activity second - i've lived in a farming community, i've lived in major cities across the country dairy farming, working vineyards and orchards and many other jobs suck - these are the jobs "the average american won't do" - that get done by legal citizens - so basically i'm not buying that line also on the flip side of the coin for keeping costs down - you have to look at how much it costs in education, medical expenses, etc if illegals are costing hundreds of millions to a state each year, saving 20 cents on strawberries isn't exactly a real benefit another thing - these people are coming for a better life - meanwhile a majority live in crowded conditions, earning a wage that isn't up to our standard of living - i guess it's OK to exploit people under the guise of humanitarianism this is problem, this remains a problem it's just a matter of determining the right way to fix it for one I'd reform all immigration procedures - it's just not obtainable right now - it should be tough, but a better process i'd give harsh penalties to anyone who employs illegals i'd find a way to register existing illegals - a one time offer where they could get a separate # that could be used to hire them legally - a company would then have to give them the prevailing wage, pay payroll taxes, etc - eventually you would want to transition these people to citizens set up some type of adjustment classes where they can learn the language and understand what it means to be an american then set up some serious border patrol and throw out anyone who isn't here legally
