Update: I just checked out Tauck and another travel site and their trips are expensive. The 20 day trip to australia and new zealand is about 5,000. My price was steal then, I will def raise it. They also did not have multi region and over 3 week trips.

The 20 day Tauck's trip is a lot more than $5,000. It's closer to $6,000 per person unless you want to go in Aussie winter (and it does get cold there down south in Melbourne or even Sydney). That doesn't include the intra-Australia airfare that you have to buy, which is another $2500 per person. So that's $8500 per person, and doesn't include the overseas flight to get there. Checking Travelocity real quick, the cheapest I found on a round-trip from Miami to Sydney was about $2200. Now you're up to $10,700 per person and that's just for 20 days. Tauck's is making a fortune off of this but some of that is because they get bulk deals - I bet it would cost a person more than $10,000 to do the same trip on his or her own, stay in the same hotels, eat at the same restaurants, and see the same stuff.

 

One thing I remember about all the tours I've been on is that the Tour Directors definitely know the areas they're touring on, and they've built up a lot of relationships with the locals (if they're not locals themselves). That takes years to build up. It's what helps get them through the airport when one of the guests has a bit too much luggage, or gets them seated at a restaurant quickly when the tour is running behind and needs to catch a plane or a show, or gets the guests the best rooms at the hotels.

Thats alot of money. The package I am thinking of will be a steal then for many people. I think somewhere in the vacinty of 9,500 or so for 45 nights in 9 cities is a great deal. I found out that I could add 4 nights in Jordan at a 5 star hotel right on the dead sea for free and offer it to those who wanted it. I am sure not everyone wants to go there though.

 

I think the biggest challenge will come in marketing the business. But the one good thing I have going for me is that I only need a few people to make it work.

 

 

PS I am actually doing an Australia trip of my own in May. I got lucky because I signed up for some cards on United airlines that gave me the miles to go. Then I found really cheap inter australia flights. 207 dollars total for Sydney to Adielade, Adielade to MElbourne and Melbourne to Brisbane. I know its off season, but thats really cheap.

Das - actually as an LLC you'd still have that issue - the only way you can get rid of the insurance liability from being your own is to setup a group of investors and form a real corporation - this way the risk would be spread out amongst all the investors - however, as a director of this company you would need D&O coverage because if you lose them their money they'll sue

 

tax liability and insurance liability are different beasts

 

 

 

 

overall, liability in a LLC is the same as a corportation.

 

though with insurance its often a much different beast especially for a startup, since many times you have to make a personal guarnatee, although the same many times exist when making a loan with a bank within a startup LLC also.

yep ... it's a complicated universe - where we tend to have issues is when LLCs are formed as non-profits - they don't fit the standard forms for that class

Well I just solved the marketing problem. I could go to travel shows like the one they are having in miami this weekend. Those shows usually attract 15,000 or more people who are serious about travelling. I would only need about 30 of them.

A both costs about 2,000 so that is not a bad deal.
