April 14, 200620 yr Author My concern is attendence right now, not that Im surprised but those young kids are worth watching...the product is not that bad but Loria has again angered S Fl hopefully people will wanna just enjoy the best thing in the world which is a baseball game Attendance really means nothing right now. OK, it does. It shows Loria and local politicians there is support for the team. But I wouldn't be concerned that this offseason has caused the Marlins to lose a substantial amount of fans forever. If a new ballpark is built that would surely be better for baseball and the team is locked into a 30+ year lease, they'll come back. True, one of the reasons people in this town are apathetic, is because its an emotional tie that binds fans to their team. A lot of people don't want to invest emotionally in this team, because they feel there is at least a 50-50 % chance of the team leaving. If the stadium and long-term lease are signed, then maybe folks will feel more comfortable in giving in their emotions to the franchise. But as it stands people are standoffish because of the uncertainty. The Marlins need to stop p***y-footing around and say one way or the other what they are going to do. If its a stadium in So Fla, then they need to step-up to the plate and DO IT. If its move out of town then say it, and let us get on with their lame-duck years. But the fans are sitting on the sidelines waiting for Loria, and who can blame them ?
April 14, 200620 yr ok let wait to end of month to see if that happen? when is radio show on the air????? that only place that we hear what going with hialeah thank for that link
April 14, 200620 yr BTW, a $100 million (aka too much because it is easily an over-estimate) is around $3.4 million a year in rent. Good overall post Cape, but one key error. I think you forgot interest. The actual annual cost of servicing $100 million over 30 years is roughly $4.5 - $5 million a year. I wasn't sure if the cost was included in estimates or not, but I have always assumed you had to tack on debt service. BTW, this is the first time the Marlins have ever seriously talked with Hialeah. Hialeah voters have approved a ballpark in a straw poll. Wayne and John Henry both laughed at Hialeah in the past, but Loria is looking at the city.
April 14, 200620 yr I never realised that Hialeah was so big. Nothing really to add to the conversation, but I was really suprised that the city had close to 230,000 people.
