April 25, 200620 yr gotta love those righty-lefty matchups. in a division with johnson, howard, etc. you would think we'd have at least 1 lh-rp. jones showed why we could use one tonight.
April 25, 200620 yr You can look at all my posts in the past 2 weeks... I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE DAY 1.... NO REASON WHY WE DONT HAVE ONE!!! Church to win a game, Jones to win a game.... WE NEED A f***ING LHP RP!!
April 25, 200620 yr I perfer pitchers who can hit batters out, not ones that are useless in many situations. There's very few available lefties out there that are capable against both lefthanded and righthanded batters. And if you hadn't noticed, our relievers are pitching a lot of innings which has caused Girardi to make tough decisions regarding his management. Dedicating a spot on the bullpen to a lefty specialist would not help resolve that.

No need to sign one, just bring someone up from the farm
April 25, 200620 yr It's hard enough to find a minor leaguer who can be promoted and get major leaguers out. It will be even harder to find one who throws lefthanded. And gets lefties out. And righties out.

April 25, 200620 yr Our smart manager only want the "good arm" in the bullpen as he said in the spring training (so it means all our left reliever be "bad arm"),even though these "good arm" righty will blow all games for lefty hitter ...........thanks Joe,you setting the MLB record with a FUXKING bullpen without a lefty ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :banghead :banghead :banghead :mad :mad :mad :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown
April 25, 200620 yr There have been many great teams that didn't have a single lefty in the 'pen. This isn't a new or radical concept by any means.
April 25, 200620 yr I will say it again. We have a great left handed specialist. His name is Joe Borowski. 3 year split .226/.298/.396 2005 .198/.261/.321 Borowski gets these guys out pretty good. Girardi needs to use him more effectively in situations. I can understand him wanting to see how a young'en like Johnson will react to a pressure situation like this, but at the same time he needs to throw his best pitcher out there for more then the 9th inning if needed.

WE NEED A f***ING LHP RP!! Needing one, and getting one are two different dimensions of reality. Don't fret it, because we'll NOT be getting a solid one -- it will have to come from our Farm. Loria will not trade for any this year because it will add $$$ onto the payroll. We're just gonna have to be content with 6 good innings and then say a bunch of Hail Mary's to get us through the pen.

April 25, 200620 yr A solid one isn't available in trade, and even then, shouldn't be expected to be solid with his new team and new coaching and training staff.
April 25, 200620 yr So would hiring an Olympic sprinter to be our pinch-runner and a dwarf to be our pinch-batter, but can we afford to give them the roster spot? Will we be at a loss when we need a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement? Can we assume that either will help the team most of the time they're utilized? Now ask yourself the same questions about a lefthanded reliever. And ask yourself one more question: can we keep him fresh and his arm ready for instances when he might be of use without it adversely affecting the club on and off the field?

April 25, 200620 yr I think Tankersley might be a viable option before the year is done. Maybe, but he was passed up by Vargas -- if he was that good he would have been up by now. Boy this team has been handcuffed by Jeff Allison, what a mistake that was. By the way couldn't we have taken Conor Jackson with that pick over Allison ? That would have filled our needs at 1st base instead of the struggling Mike Jacobs.

Also, don't be so quick to judge anything by Vargas' rapid rise through the system. It was more of an exception than a rule. :thumbup
